The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced today in a media conference that it has signed a contract with running back Ricky Williams. The Argonauts would like to thank the Miami Dolphins, in particular President and COO Bryan Wiedemeier and Head Coach Nick Saban for granting permission for Williams to join the Boatmen while serving a one year suspension from the NFL. With the signing, Williams becomes the second Heisman Trophy winner and the fourth first round NFL draft pick on the Argos’ current roster.

I love it.... though i feel most American people on RM wont have a clue about the CFL. This should put the Argos in the top spot this season, and all for only $240,000!!! how much did he make in the NFL???

Ricky still owes the Dolphins almost $8 million dollars. He needs some work, no matter where it is.

true, the CFL has alot more passing, but they throw to the running backs alot.

the field is 10 yards longer, alot wider, and the end zones are 20 yards yards deep in the CFL. he will own on the bigger field.

also, consider the average talent/athletism is lower in the C.

if he ran circles around better players on a smaller field, i cant wait to see him in Toronto.

He didn't really run circles around them. More of a power back than a juke-move guy.

he's reportedly been off the weed for some time.

i think it's a good move. obviously the guy needs the $$ and he can keep himself sharp. i think rw could play 5 more years in the NFL if he can stay focused, but then again it's Ricky we're talking about here.

i think it was ruled he had to pay back his signing bonus because he was ruled in breach of contract for his pre-training camp departure in 2004.

Oh I figured there was some kind of settlement when he came back last year.

if it wasn't weed he tested positive for what was it? Any other controlled substance would be worse than weed, let's hope he hasn't started putting shit up his nose now.

i don't see ricky as a cocaine kind of guy, but who knows? i think there were some reports he tested positive for amphetamines, which he said on appeal was caused by a supplement he was taking.

he had decent receiving skills at Texas, we'll see if he can translate that to the CFL.

and yes Joe Theismann needs to stfu.

you're right, Ricky doesn't seem like a Shawn Kemp type of guy in fact he's a total laid back stoner type, if he wins the appeal does it mean he can come back and play?

he already lost the appeal. that's why he went to the CFL.

So he originally didn't want to come play in Canada because he was planning on being a full-time yoga instructor.

Sounds... different.

It's good to see Toronto make this move... maybe if he enjoys himself and has some success it will entice more NFLers, whether they're in similar situations or past their prime or whatever, to come play in Canada.

i'm taking summer classes at the u of toronto campus the argos hold their practice. i've never seen such attention to a single practice than there was yesterday. not only the media, but the public in general. usually, it has been whatever, it's just cfl'ers. for what it's worth, williams' presence has generated some attention to the cfl, especially for the argos. with the lackluster professional toronto sport teams we have, this year's argos should get good crowds. which was the basic reason in bringing ricky to toronto.
