Exactly. But "don't it make you smile that the sun don't shine?" is like saying "what, are you seriously happy without me?" Or it could mean "does it make you happy knowing that I'm iserable?" Then, the person in the song just breaks down and admits that he undoubtedly misses the person, even though she has run off with someone else (three crooked hearts).

That's the way I look at. Certainly no happy.
