I was thinking very seriously about this... So I want you to concentrate very hard on my words.

What if Inside Job isn't... IN FACT, a job at all? What if it's... Job? !

http://www.litvonline.com/litv/job.htm

"Job 1
1 ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, his name was Job. And this man was perfect and upright, and fearing God, and turning away from evil.
2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him.
3 And his possessions were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household, so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east.
4 ¶ And his sons feasted in the house of each one on his day. And they sent and called their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 And it happened, when the day of feasting had gone around, Job would send and sanctify them. And he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt sacrifices according to all their number. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. This, Job always did."

Mike has never spoke much about religion, & I think that's why he's so obsessed now with showing his true feelings... He's talking about the "human light" of Job burning inside his heart & desire.

The only reason Eddie sings it like 'job' is because he thought that's what Mike meant & Mike was too nervous to confess!!!!

I think it's just literally, looking inside. The only 'sin' Mike talks about is love.

groetjes,
Mirella :)

So Mike thinks love is a sin now?! I see... He must be looking at it from a point of view where a Priest doesn't marry.

No, just listen to the lyrics: he used to treat love as the highest sin.
Your message made me think about this one, though :)

Ah.. He USED to treat love as the highest sin... Implying that he couldn't love Jesus because he didn't want to before! Now he acknowledges it!

And you found a picture of him dressed like a Priest! I told you!!!

NOT a RELIGIOUS song, but a spiritual song in the true sense of the word. Its a look at one's own self, an examination of the spirit...while at the same time coming to the realization that there are larger things in the world than one's own little problems.

By larger things you mean the church of latter day saints? I wonder which church Mike goes to

that and that self love is the basis of loving others (which is the opposite of the message of the book of job)

Was Jesus kidding when he was crucified for Mike?

One must remember that the Book of Job is one of the oldest books in the Bible. So any imagry you see in songs, books, etc. that seem to come from it may have nothing to do with the book at all; it's just that the images and motiffs are so old that they are almost archetypes.

That being said, I don't think this song has much or anything to do with Job; but good job recognizing the similarities.

Off topic: Job is far and away my favorite book of the Bible, it's definitely the first existential work in the history of man. I just wish they didn't have that tacked-on version in the end where he gets all his stuff back and lives to be so old.

Hmmm I noticed at the end you wrote, "lives to be so old"... Could Pearl jams career be a metaphor for this? Theyve been going 15 years.. Maybe this is some kind of message from Pearl Jam implying that their whole career has been based around the book of Job & how old the band is getting... This is huge.

So what you're telling us is that Pearl Jam has been involved this whole time in some crazy conspiracy with the bible? Do you realize how crazy that sounds?

I refuse to believe I'm the only person deeply amused by this whole thread.

By the way Avacado, you are totally crazy. Really just insane...it is clear that pearl jam's career has been guided by the freemasons and illuminati, not the book of job. Duh.
