Lowlight

Clouds roll by
Reeling is what they say
Or is it just my way
Wind blows by
Low light
Sidetracked, low light
Can't see my tracks
Your scent-way back

Can I be here all alone
Clear a path to my home
Blood runs dry
Books and jealousy tell me wrong
All I feel, calm
Voice rolls by
Low light
Car crash, low light
Can't wear my mask
Your first, my last

Voice goes by
Two birds is what they'll see
Getting lost upon their way
Wind rolls by
Low light
Eye sight, low light
I need the light
I'll find my way from wrong, what's real
Your dream I see

This SOTM is inspired by the happiest PJ song thread (I'm cutting in front of the que, so you'll have to forgive me). I admit that I’ve never thought much about low light, or Jeff’s songs in particular. They usually strike me as a series of fractured images that don’t necessarily cohere together all that well. But there were some interesting thoughts about lowlight in that thread and I’d like to hear more

So I’m not going to put up a starter post for Low Light. I’d just be making it up as I went along. I always thought low light was a lot like Last Kiss, someone lying dazed after a serious accident, a loved one seriously wounded, trying to make sense of what just happened. But now I’m not sure anymore. I’m pretty much a blank slate here RM. Make this song for me.

4 stars for me. You're right its one of the band happiest songs. It always makes me smile for some reason. I've always liked it, and always will. I really want to see this one live!!

since no one else has said anything so far I will say that lowlight is played too much live. I'd much rather here In Hiding, faithful, or brain of J--and if they want a slower song I'd certainly rather get ATY

well first off - great song - one of my favorites from yield

i think the song is def about lost love .

Your scent-way back

everywhere he went the smell of her

Car crash, low light
Can't wear my mask
Your first, my last

he can't hide anymore, facing the facts she is gone - she was his first love and def last.

I'll find my way from wrong, what's real
Your dream I see

she probably loved him for him- (can't seem to find that much anymore) and she wanted thim to be happy with the band and in life.

i don't know that's the way io see it
and the more i think about it - this song does not have to be about a death more the lose of someone you loved thorugh breakup.

to tell the truth - this song hits home - like most PJ songs do

i cant even listen to it on the boston 2 bootleg, the backup vocals are terribly loud and annoying... i usually like it live though

5 stars. Low Light is a beautiful little song. I can't define the lyrics, but I know what they mean to me, and that is what makes the song so special. It's all subjective, which is what makes it great.

And the line "Can I be here all alone? Clear a path to my home..."

*sighs*

This song is a perfect example of how the music give so much more meaning to the song than just the lyrics. Really really awesome version from Boston I, and it made me almost like it a little more. Perfect, simple guitar solo in here.

However, other than the solo and the music picking up some bland lyrics there is not much going on here. Probably the most over-produced song on any Pearl Jam song, and was never something Pearl Jam is known for nor does it work to an advantage. One of the only songs Pearl Jam sounds better on an album and left on an album.

Leaves me with just one question:

If they have an awesome piano bridge in the album version... why doesn't boom play it?

most underplayed song in the pearl jam catalog. could be jammed out at the end. seems like they are working it better and better. hope to hear it for years to come. i think it would be good just about anywhere. an opener, a closer, and change of tempos, whatever

Given to Fly, Do the Evolution, and Low Light are the moments that made Yield Pearl Jam's finest album, until this year. Actually, without Low Light the second half of that record would seem really dull compared to the glorious first.

I am like minded with you on this. The feel of this song is like coming back to something good after a long period of being away from it, like going home, seeing an old friend or rekindling a relationship....there arent really any lyrics that express this idea implicitly, its just the way it makes me feel. 5 stars.
