I love the cinema, plain and simple. If you could make your own films, what would they be? I had one in mind. It would take place in Iraq, but it wouldn't be necessarly a war film. After "private ryan" war movies grew tired. But I would make it like Apocolypse Now, where its a story within a war. In my case it would be a Red Cross volunteer in Iraq. If I made a trailer, I would have "heroin" by Velvet Unground playing. No it has nothing to do with drugs, but it mentions dead bodies and politicians, and it just sounds crazy for a trailer.
I wouldn't choose sides either. I wouldn't have a agree or disagree type of message. Just tell a story.

I always had this idea for a movie that takes place during the Civil War in which aliens land and all this weird atmospheric supernatural shit is going on. Its a totally serious and straight-faced drama. Which is weird because I have film ideas all the time and most of them don't come close to this.

I've thought about how this excellent book would play as a film, and I have to say, it would be tough to adapt without keeping the first-person narrative. Holden's actions aren't nearly as interesting as his reasonings behind his actions, which are rarely vocalized. It's all internal. Perhaps a voice-over narrative would work?

The day after Salinger passes there'll be a script up and going, because the rights will be transfered to his daughter I believe.
