I was thinking about this at work, passing time comparing Pearl Jam albums to classic albums & trying to figure out what the equivalent is in mood.
1) Ten - Led Zeppelin 4
2) Vs. - The Clash's 'Give 'Em Enough Rope'
3) Vitalogy - Bob Dylan's 'Blood On the Tracks'
4) No Code - Bob Dylan's 'Blonde on Blonde'
5) Yield - The Cure's 'The Head on the Door'
6) Binaural - Dark Side of the Moon
7) Riot Act - the Beatles' 'Let it Be'
Eight) Avocado - The Who's 'Who's Next'
give yours if you want.

this seems like something I'd love to get in on... but I'm not sure that I understand what you're doing really. Can you explain why you compared each album? what are your criterion for each comparison?

I don't see a Ten/Zepplin comparison at all. Certainly not in subject matter.

lets just hope no one compares any of their albums to a Nirvana album.

Likewise.

how is vitalogy like blood on the tracks, i love both cds, but i dont see it...
Mood. The overall feel of the record...the emotion that is created. Not comparing music directly, so much as the experience you get from it.
Ten - This one's tough...it sounds a little bit like a lot of different things, but doesn't have enough of its own voice to match with anything specific. I might be able to see some connection to the first two Zep records.
Vs - London Calling, first half. The energy, the defiance, and even some of the goofier elements (Cadillac and Glorified G)
Vitalogy - Tonight's the Night. It is a bleak landscape, where not much grows and there is little hope to be found.
No Code - The white album, just for the varied and sometimes disjointed peace-and-love bit to it.
Yield - Who's Next. These two totally match up for me, in terms of the feeling the record creates.
Binaural - I'll agree with Dark Side of the Moon.
Riot Act - Maybe a Nick Cave record. The music is energetic, the vocals aren't. It's a cool effect, although Nick does it better.
Pearl Jam - Has elements of each of the first six Pearl Jam studio albums, 5 of which are classics.

Binaural and DSTOM...are you people serious? What possible comparisons are you drawing between the two other than the fact that Binaural was a bit of an experimental album for PJ?

they both have black covers, with colorful stuff in the middle. duh.

Mood. Read the post above yours. I kinda see it too. There's certain ambience to Binaural that matches the atmosphere of DSOTM. Not the songs, but the way the songs sound and feel.

Musically, no. But if the notion of mood comparison is eluding you, then step back a few posts. We're talking about the feeling or emotion generated when listening to the records in question. It doesn't mean they are sonically similar in any way.
For Binaural - Dark Side, it works really well for me so long as one removes the first three Bin. tracks.

This by far the most bizarre post I've seen in awhile. The only comparison I get is Binaural and that only has to do with the album cover.
