KDKA in Pittsburgh is reporting Ben Roethlisberger is in a hospital with head injuries after a motorcycle accident Monday. Bill Cowher famously advised Roethlisberger to start wearing a helmet after Kellen Winslow's accident last year. An eyewitness told Pittsburgh television that Roethlisberger flew over the handle bars head first into the car's winshield his motorcycle struck. The eyewitness claimed Roethlisberger was reportedly bleeding "profusely" from the head. He was conscious after the accident.

PITTSBURGH (June 12, 2006) -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been in a motorcycle accident in Pittsburgh this morning.
Witnesses are telling authorities that the player's motorcycle collided with a car near a downtown intersection and that Roethlisberger's head hit the windshield and was bleeding.
Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding.
One witness told KDKA television that Roethlisberger was conscious but appeared disoriented before he was taken from the scene to Mercy Hospital. A Steelers spokesman is at the hospital and confirmed Roethlisberger is being treated there, but wouldn't provide additional details.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured in a motorcycle accident Monday morning.
"He was alert and conscious," said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service.
The Steelers confirmed the accident, but provided no details on his condition.
A witness told Pittsburgh TV station WTAE that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle, then hit the ground.
Roethlisberger was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Shortly after Kellen Winslow's motorcycle accident, which forced the Browns tight end to miss the entire 2005 season, Steelers head coach Bill Cowher expressed concern over his own star player's infatuation with the bikes.
"It (a pro football career) is a very small time in your life, and you've got to be very careful. You can see it documented with Kellen Winslow," Cowher said. "Not just in riding motorcycles, but where you go and who you associate with."
Cowher reportedly spoke to Roethlisberger in May of 2005 after photos surfaced in which the Steelers quarterback was posing helmetless on a motorcycle. Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers to ride without a helmet.
You'd think these guys would learn after the injuries others have suffered on motorcycles...or "washing the truck".
Jim Rome was saying that the injuries aren't life threatening (for what it's worth), but it's still scary. Even if I don't like the guy I hope he's ok.

i hope he is ok.
there is a lesson to be learned here, but he didnt need to go to this extent to learn it. its borderline boneheaded to be honest. i find it mindboggling that folks will ride a crotch rocket and not wear a helmet...

They were playing a clip of Terry Bradshaw talking to Ben about riding motorcycles and how dangerous they are.
He then said that at the time Three Rivers Stadium was being built, Terry was in his corvette and went too fast and spun out in circles, while Dan Rooney was behind him watching the whole thing.
Yes, what Peeps said, Ben, you're too young, and way too young in your career not to be wearing a helmet when riding.

i dont understand how i can get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, yet people on bikes do not have to wear a helmet
i'm a huge steeler fan and i hope he's alright too...but my first thoughts upon hearing this on espn was "i bet that dickhead wasn't wearing a helmet....stupid cocksucker"
