i just saw this last night. it was surprisingly very good. it was a very good movie. it wasn't just an hour of cheap fun. it was a nicely layered movie. kinda odd since it's a kids movie....or at least marketed that way.
I haven't seen it yet, but none of Pixar's movies qualify as cheap fun. Sure, they're tons of fun, but there's always something genuinely enjoyable about the way they tell a story. Quality work from that team, time and time again.

I often wonder how good a film like The Incredibles would be -- only w/ established comic book characters.
With the right writing staff, I think it would be heaven -- certainly better than any of the live action films we've seen (w/ perhaps the exception of the Spider-Man franchise).

im a fan of the spider-man films, and i geeked out for like a week after i saw the second one. but i watched it again months later and a lot of the moments arent as good as i remember. i could have been in a picky and bad mood though.

all good, with the exceptions of the weak soundtrack and there were too many dissolves for my taste, but that's just me prolly... solid stuff, pixar won't let us down for a while

yeah, the quality of most kids movies has seriously gone downhill. you can tell they're just making them for the money, the majority of them barely have plots, the characters are annoying, and the music is appalling! i think most of them switced to cgi because they can make movies faster and therefore make even more money off of them.
but i do love pixar. none of the above comments were directed towards anyone at pixar.

Cell animation is just so much more articulate and beautiful than the CGI in these movies. Look at The Lion King. Sure, it's a kid's movie, but there are some really beautiful scenes in it. I wish they would go back to cell animation, at least just once.

Most people do things because of money. i see no harm in creating stories that you think people will want to see. great artists tend to sell well becauseit speaks to large swaths of people. IF these movies really were all crap and not up to standard, they'd stop making them.

So there you have it
Plus John Lasseter, the head of Pixar, is trying to bring back traditional cel animation through Pixar. He's a huge fan of cel animation, especially Miyazaki's work.
Anyone else noticed that when Lightning McQueen was in that tent with his sponsors and the lights went out, somebody in the crowd yelled 'Free bird!'?
I was the only one in the theatre laughing out loud at that one.
I liked this a hell of alot more than I expected to, which shouldn't be surprising since I really love everything that Pixar does, including their shorts. I thought the supporting characters weren't as clever as they could have been, except for Tony Shaloub's Italian tire salesman. He and his sidekick were GREAT.
But overall, this was a lot of fun, and the most fun I've had at the movies so far this summer. I guess that relaly isn't saying much, but still.

I thought that Cars 2 was a pretty entertaining movie, but my kids were completely clueless and bored. The plot is way over the head of anyone under 7 ... not to mention the fact that they've introduced guns, bombs, and murder into the previously clean world of Cars.
The animation is damned good though. A lot of the movie looked like real film (aka not animation).
