This is not a personal lamentation about Pearl Jam's chart position. I just want to know how people can buy MORE of these other bands after they've already been on the charts for a while, and LESS of Pearl Jam. Especially considering that this seems like PJ's most accessible and radio-friendly album in quite a while.

kids relate to the paddle pop man
I'm not a big Tool fan, but they are not really poppish, and they've been around a long time now so they're not the new, hip thing. To see them outperform PJ from a commercial standpoint is very strange to me.

i must admit that i am very suprised at the amount of success that tool have had, i don't think that they have had a great album since aenima.
as for nickleback they just sing pop songs with guitars and long hair

Guys, the last 2 RHCP albums & Tool albums have been huge.. The last 2 PJ albums before their new one were commercial flops. That's why Pearl Jam isn't selling as much as them... It's gonna take more than just this album to make a comeback & be on the same level saleswise as RHCP & Tool. This album is just the first step.

RHCP and Nickelback get massive airplay on radio and MTV. You'll hear their songs more times in an hour than you will Tool or PJ's in a week. That explains their success. Tool has a massive fanbase. They appeal to fans of numerous genres whearas PJ appeals mainly to PJ fans.
I think you people are a bit jaded in regards to your musical worldview. Hanging out on a busy PJ message board every day might give one the impression that they are actually a hugely popular band, but i think that's a misconception. Granted they still fill arenas around the world but it's only because they have a dedicated fanbase of hardcore lifelong fans. Despite the radiofriendliness of the new album i don't think they are winning a lot of new fans over just yet.

I don't think the RHCP have ever truly made a good album...
I gotta say I really think so.. I own BSSM, I own Californication, & I own Stadium Arcadium... Every album has it's good songs here & there, but beginning to end I don't think so.

I'm a big Tool fan, but there new album isn't that good. Right in Two is an awesome song, but the rest really is just decent, and isn't up to their standards.
