Do any of you ever make comments about a person's race in a joking manner?

Especially to people of that race, yes. Me and 2 guys I work with do it all the time. They call me "James" and I call them "Rerun" and "Jerome".

Indeed, and I make fun of my own race.

Yep. My friends know me well enough to know when I'm kidding, and vice versa. But I'm not dumb enough to say something in front of someone i don't know well, regardless of their race.

I was at a meeting a couple months ago, and we talking about some properties that were adjacent to a property that we own. The Town Planner was at the meeting, and he's black, which is kind of unusual for semi-rural Arizona.

So my boss starts talking about the other properties, which are owned by a family named "Black", and he refers to the owners as "these Black brothers". I don't remember how he covered, but everyone at the table had a good laugh, including the Planner.

I was just checking to see if I was the only one. Of course, I'm making fun of my kids, and they make fun of me too.

How many Indian jokes do you think I get on a daily basis?

Here's an example of an overused classic joke (with a Hindi accent):

-My name is Suneil and I work at the kwik e mart! Would you like a squishee?

My friends do dumb shit like that all the time, and I do it right back to them. I think it's hilarious.
I encourage these types of jokes because its decreases the seriousness of race as a social factor (I hope that makes sense). I've met some FOBs who turn out to be some of the coolest and nicest people I've ever met.

All the time. I love going to USC because it's so diverse; everyone cracks on everybody else about everything. I get called "Cowboy" and "Cowtipper", I call my Cuban friend Ed "Carlos" and "Juan Valdez", and we both call our gay Romanian roomate Robert "Eurotrash"

I used to ask my Jewish roommate if he was allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving or July 4th. Occasionally I'd toss out the "You killed my Savior!" comment. Good times.

Exactly. As someone who is Jewish and Italian there are some good ones with my two races.

Every race has their idiosyncrasies and little quirks, and you're exactly right, if we can joke about race it seriously undermines the parameters race has created because it defies them.

I LOVE racial jokes.

My El Salvadorian friend's family owns a coffee plantation. Methinks the Juan Valdez crack might rub him the wrong way. :P
