I was listening to 'Gone' today & when Eddie sings, 'When the gas in my tank, feels like money in the bank", I just had to stop.. pull my car over (not in that order, actually backwards) and stare at my radio & just say, "wow"...

I seriously think (I'm not being sarcastic here) that "When the gas in my tank, feels like money in the bank" might be the greatest lyrics ever written ever... It's just so profound & complex & deep - I own 11 Dylan albums & all the lyrics on those albums combined don't even come close to "The gas in my tank feels like money in the bank". I mean... It's just so mindblowing & intellectual & incredible that a man came up with such heart-wrenching lyrics..

I don't think any other songwriter ever could ever match "The gas in my tank feels like money in the bank", not even Beethovens lyrics come close. I seriously think that with that one simple line, Eddie has secured his place as the new Bob Dylan... I mean it's just so genius, "the gas in my tank feels like money in the bank"... Those just sound like the words of God, I mean, wow... It's just so unreal how he tapped into what we're all thinking about the gas in our tanks relating to the money we have in the bank... It's like he got in our heads & said what we've all been thinking our whole lives.... It's just so incredible, well done Eddie.

no, I'm not being sarcastic - "The gas in my tank feels like money in the bank" are the most incredible lyrics ever written - Eat your heart out Betty Davis.

I love the track, but I recall an early review of the album that cited some unfortunately-cheesy lyrics, and this exact line was quoted. I think I might tend to agree.

Lots of people reckon that is one of the most awkward and worst written parts of the album. Eg. Me.

Still, I respect your opinion.

Ok wait.. so is this sarcasm about the original sarcasm? I am so confused.

Personally I think "Bitch betta have my money" by AMG is the greatest lyric ever but that is for another thread.

Count me in that 'lots of people' statement.

Gone is one of my favorites from the album, and that lyric generally stops me [at a screeching halt, mind you] from having it be the top one.

Here's to hoping that you're really sarcastic.

Is this reverse/double-negative sarcasm? I certainly hope so.

Best lyric ever:

"Life's short, so play hard and stick hard / and the only time you love em' is when your dick hard" Jay-Z

while the meaning is relevant and true, its too blunt and it comes off cheesy.

It's not so much that I dislike the lyric, it's the delivery that was horrible. I almost cringe everytime that part comes up in the song.

I'm always kinda suprised at the real visceral reaction people have to that lyric.
