I've noticed a bunch of fellow Aussies here talking about a band called Mexico City... you've piqued my interest and they don't have a very googleable name so who are they etc?

hey, sorry... i only just got your PM (yeah, I know... it's 3:30am).
Mexico City are a Brisbane band and nowhere near what you would call big... yet. They play in clubs and mostly as support, but they're really great and the guys in the band are absolutely wonderful.
You won't find any of their stuff online... they do not even have a website (something that I have spoken to them about and hope is being rectified!) They have two EPs out - one was just released on the 18th of October called Lost Gospel.
Here's their media release (one of the boys in the band emailed this to me, so I'm not sure where you could find it on the net. and... the release date of the 4th was moved to the 18th).

Brisbane desperados Mexico City are throwing back the tequila to celebrate the national release of their fiery second EP Lost Gospel, due out on October 4.
The new record is to be released by Reverberation, the hip new label and distribution company run by You Am I's Rusty Hopkinson.
The four-piece have supported the likes of You Am I, The Black Keys, The Mess Hall, Jay Farrar and Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses, in the process carving out a reputation for roaring dirges, unkempt rock and pastoral hymns.
Mexico City's latest release finds the group taking a step forward from the Crazy Horse fixations of their first EP Big Black Car to include whistling rave-ups, scratchy barnyard honk and vamped-up blues.
The band will officially launch Lost Gospel in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane later this year.

ABOUT MEXICO CITY
Mexico City formed in Brisbane in 2001, lifting their moniker from the name of the rundown dockside bar featured in Albert Camus' classic novel The Fall.
The band soon set about exploring that great tradition of songwriting; where rock n roll lays down besides country, blues and soul; and figures like Neil Young, Dylan, the Stones, Hank Williams, Nick Cave, John Lee Hooker and the Velvets reign supreme.
A chance meeting with You Am I drummer Rusty Hopkinson in early 2002 saw Mexico City given the opportunity to release a record on Illustrious Artists, Mr Hopkinson's esteemed indie label which had previously released works by The Vines, The Pictures and The Persian Rugs.
The first fruits of this new union was 2003's Big Black Car EP, which Sydney's Drum Media described as "The Eagles waking up after a three day amphetamine and tequila bender. You will not dance around the room, but will stagger towards the fridge hoping there's one cold one left. Beautifully bleak."
Recorded in late 2002, Big Black Car's five tracks saw Mexico City fully explore their fondness for Crazy Horse-styled guitar workouts and haunted back porch ballads.
2003 also saw tracks by Mexico City added to compilations by Off The Hip and Illustrious Artists, and the band scoring support slots for the likes of The Black Keys, Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses, You Am I and The Mess Hall.
Mexico City's second EP Lost Gospel will be available nationally from October 4 through Reverberation.

I've only heard like the first minute but it sounds pretty good so far. If you don't mind I'd like to hear more. Might have to go see them if they come to Melbourne!

well I treat young neil as a member of CH so yeah I guess they do but I'm not an expert on the band or anything. The other day I tried to find their EP with no luck.

GOOD REASONS FOR DRINKING
We're playing a great show at The Zoo in the Fortitude Valley on Friday, 12 November with Sydney's Youth Group and Melbourne's Love of Diagrams.
We're on first at 9pm, so make sure you get there early! Tickets are $12 from Rockinghorse or Skinny's, or $15 at the door on the night.
We're also doing a string of dates in early December. We're at The
Troubadour in Brisbane's valley mall on Thursday, 2 December supporting former Crow singer, budding actor and now solo act Peter Fenton. The following night (Friday, 3 December) we're playing a huge showcase at The Annandale Hotel in Sydney for our record label Reverberation. And then the next night (Saturday, 4 December) we're supporting kickarse aussie act The Drones in their hometown Melbourne at the Tote Hotel.
