So any american interest in this even though Armstrong isn't racing this year?

It starts in a week and I can't wait to see how it'll progress and who the champion will be this year. Hard to bet my money on anybody. Of course I root (like every year since '96) for Ullrich, but Basso is probably the man to beat.

Also, many american racers should have chances to at least reach the Top 3 this year. (Landis, Leipheimer, maybe Danielson...)

I'm gonna watch this again this summer, sort of a summer tradition for me.

At least a Tour where we don't know who the winner is before the race starts. I want to see Basso win, but he'll have some stiff competition from Ullrich among others.

Wait, you mean there's another event in Europe? :)

Go the Aussies. Evans, Rogers, McEwan, O'Grady... go you good things.

Yeah the aussies are always fun to watch. Well, except McEwen, he's an unfair jerk. I hope Evans and Rodgers will kick some ass, they have talent and especially Evans a great season so far.

I never realized "Tour de France" is code for Rugby Union. :?: :!:

That's actually funny. Seeing the bikers pull over, and have a piss by the side of the road.

This is so boring, I only watch it when I can be totally pro-someone or totally against someone. This year I have nobody to hate so I won't watch.

i'm not gonna argue with anyone else about how non-exciting cycling is anymore. but this should be exciting for cycling fans because the winner is not such a shoe in this year. there's a lot of guys who are very capable of winning. the last 4 or 5 years have just been, "who's gonna come in 2nd?".

Yeah, now that Robocop is out, it should be more exciting...for cycling fans...They stopped in my city 3 years ago, and we had to postpone my grandpa's funeral because of it...hmmm that's a good anecdote.

Suspended Ullrich out of Le Tour

German rider Jan Ullrich has been suspended by his T-Mobile team on the eve of this year's Tour de France.

Cycling's governing body the UCI has told T-Mobile that Ullrich is involved in an anti-doping probe in Spain.

Ullrich's Spanish team-mate Oscar Sevilla and team manager Rudy Pevenage have also been suspended.

A team spokesman said: "If we are presented with evidence which leads us to doubt the credibility of our riders, then we act upon it immediately."

Following the first reports of the scandal emanating from Spain, T-Mobile management asked all its riders to sign written declarations stating that they were not involved in any way.

Team manager Olaf Ludwig said: "We talked to the riders several times and even have their declarations of innocence in written form.

"At first we had no reason to doubt the riders' statements, but that situation has now changed profoundly."

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Ullrich was part of the investigation but he immediately denied any wrong-doing.

Ullrich, the 1997 winner, had been among the favourites for this year's Tour, which starts on Saturday.

Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong retired after last year's triumph leaving the field wide open.

In addition to his win in 1997, the German has been runner-up five times and was third last year.
