of an inning....this makes me scream obscenities like nothign else.
99.9999% of the time of the first batter of an inning is walked, hes scoring.
unless its a dodger batter. then he gets stranded on 2nd...it gets me MAD
I know you know that 99.9999% is a joke, but it really is somewhere around 65% i think which is insane. In baseball, someting hapening 65% of the time is crazy high.

you have to understand, I watch a lot of a dodgers games, where the first batter being walked ALWAYS leads to a run....especially when the bullpen is involved

It makes very little difference in the chance that a player will score whether it was a leadoff hit or a leadoff walk, and yet announcers always mention the leadoff walk stat.
Batter Result-Reached-Scored-% Scored
Single-7066-2850-40.3
Walk-3297-1344-40.8
Hit by pitch-332-134-40.4
Errors (to 1b)-340-145-42.6
Total-11035-4473-40.5
The "leadoff" situation shows remarkable constancy across the different categories, with batters reaching first on an error having a slightly higher chance to score.

too bad they never walked this guy
Doug, my hatred for you grows man
you know I hate that bastard, but not because of 85, but because in 2003 the dodgers ahd the nerve to hire him as batting coach, and he completely destroyed everyone on the team. he lasted half a season.
Sandy,
Like someone said, the percentage isn't quite as high as you poster, but I have heard a number that I can't recall right now.
For a few years, I coached high school baseball. As frustrated as you are with leadoff walks, I took only two weeks worth of our games and figured out how often a lead off walk scored, and it was an amazing 85% of the time. We were a pretty good team, also, so it's not like we where a bunch of stiffs.

yes the 99.9999 was a joke, an overdramatization if you will.
as a pitcher myself, well, all the way thru HS, every single level of ball the first thing pitchers are taught is : DONT LET THE LEADOFF GUY GET ON BASE.
and watching Dodger games, it is amazing how many times a dodger pitcher walks the leadoff guy and then he scores. just made me thing back to my LL days

Well, you could get away with throwing a fastball right down the middle to probably half the batters in high school, as in most lineups, there is maybe three hitters who can hurt you, and in the big leagues, that is obviously much different.

Kirk Gibson was a Dodger
hand picked? what the heck do you mean dude?
arent you the Knicks/Rams/Dodger Fan in CT?
Sorry, but when you said you needed to "pick" a new basketball team because the knicks suck, you became the kind of person that just decides to like a team, rather than having it evolve naturally. and living where you do, you have plenty of options, i would figure you might pick teams that dont infuriate you so much.
