OK, so, at my new job I have to stare at a computer all day. Eventually I'll have a dual-monitor setup, which will be cool for all the stuff we do, but they're waiting for an adapter. In the meantime, I just have one monitor.
Anyway, my resolution was set to 1024x768, 60Hz refesh rate (this is also what my monitor at home is set to, and has been for years). I couldn't go any bigger, even though I needed to, because the monitor wouldn't support a high enough refesh rate for that resolution. So today, they brought me another monitor, that I can set to 1280x1024, 75Hz. At first, I was like, Ahh! It kind of gave me a little headache, but after a while it was fine.

Now, I come home, and my monitor looks funky to me, and it's giving me a headache. It never did this before. Should I set it to what my computer at work is, to alleviate this problem? Or am I basically fucked?

refesh rates can seriously mess with your head if not set right. Different monitors can produce different results and performance. Generally speaking, the higher the refesh rate, the less chance you will feel any ill effects.

Additionally, if you are running Windows XP, you might want to try turning on ClearType. It can help reduce additional strain on the eyes.

OK, my home monitor's set to 75Hz now. And I turned on that ClearType thing, but I swear all of them look a little blurry to me. Maybe I need glasses.

You could pick up a cheap pair of reading glasses somewhere to test that out.

I have a 75Hz refesh rate on my monitor at work and 85Hz at home.

75Hz is conidered the minimum for good comfort, I think. Anyways I never had headaches with 75 Hz or more...
