Vh1 has footage on its website of an interview with Jeff and Dave Krusen (my guess would be sometime in 92/93) where Jeff gives the same story...that he had the word pearl and everyone went to see Neil Young and he put on lots of Jams....Was this footage not previously released anywhere? I know I had never seen it, but it seems as if the secret has been out of the bag since at least then...

i remember an interview w/ ed a long time ago where he went on about why they picked the name pearl jam. he talked about all the different meanings of the word "pearl" and how when they wrote music they would call it "jamming"

i saw this too. at least part of it - i got sick of watching a commercial between each question. first of all, that's STONE - not dave krusen. keep in mind that dave krusen was gone less than halfway through 1991. also, that is stone with long hair, so it's gotta be 1992 or earlier. i've haven't seen that footage before either, so i'm curious as to where it comes from as well. anyone seen this before or know where it's from?

No, you are wrong. It was Dave. There were several clips with commercials in between them. Most were of Jeff and Stone but some were of Jeff and Dave. The clip in which Jeff talked about Pearl and Neil Young featured Jeff and DAVE. I know the difference....I did mistakingly say Krusen instead of Abruzeeze. I know the difference, typed the wrong one by accident.

Sorry, but i don't buy the Neil Young story either. According to 5 Against 1 (you i know, shakey source, but I'll go with it), ed came up with the Grama Pearl story because he was embarassed by the name. Why would he be embarassed by the Neil Young story...? Im convinced they were looking for another goofy name to replace MOOKIE BLAYLOCK, and Mike came up with the name, everybody giggled, except for Ed, and the rest is history...

yeah, my bad - i watched all of those a while ago. i forgot that dave A was just standing there for a few of them. funny interviews though - they look so young and incredibly dated.

i'd actually be curious to see more old interviews from that time - seems like they had a running joke in the band and every type the name question was asked they'd give a different, but equally ridiculous answer. notice jeff is really struggling to keep a straight face....
