I find it hard to believe no one has posted about this yet.
Today marks six years since the Roskilde tragedy in Denmark. When I first heard the news reports I really couldn't believe it. Such a horrible event at a place which was supposed to be a great celebration would have shaken me in the first place, but the fact that it was a Pearl Jam concert made it ten times worse. The first thing I thought was that I hoped none of the injured or lost were anyone I talked to on the internet, then I hoped those who were seriously injured could be saved. It was only a few days later that I started to realize that this could break up the band; that only added to the sadness I was feeling.
I'm very thankful the band did not break up, and I think the way they have handled themselves since can be an inspiration to anyone dealing with grief. If you're a praying person, I'd hope that today your prayers are directed towards the families of the victims of the tragedy, and if you're not I hope you just keep them in your thoughts. It's the least we can do.

It's a sad day for PJ fans around the globe... those families are definitely in my thoughts.

I remember watching the clip on the news of Ed looking with defeat out in the crowd, crouched at his mike. Being someone who understood the joy of being at a PJ show, I remember feeling it much deeper than the people who I watched the clip with...then thinking later in the day, like many of you said already, that this might be the end of the band....my thoughts and prayers are with the familes and everyone else involved today.

ok, i dont wanna sound like some overly emotional weirdo, but listening to lbc was really touching. these people who died were just music fans like the rest of us. it kinda gets to me.

I felt so sick when I heard the news. Went to bed that night really shook up. Then the next morning woke up and realzied that the band would probably not continue on.
It took real bravery for them to keep on the way they did. That opening show of the North American tour is really a classic, just crazy raw emotion on display.

I think the best thing they could have done was keep going playing and touring. It changed them and put some things into perspective. Still a damn shame. It's something that should never happen.

Well great, I'm seeing them tonight and they won't be themselves tonight
NO WAY!!!.....you will see something great, I'm sure they will be very inspired and when they are inspired (Seattle 2000, State College 03, this year in Boston, etc. etc.) they usually are beyond their 'normal' amazing! My guess is it wont be that much of an issue, Ed will simply mention it subtely...but you will feel some extra emotion from up there.
