Anyone else think it is disturbing how good the graphics will be in video games 30 years from now? Every 5 years, a new wave of systems comes out that completely blows the previous era away.

it wont be as amazing as youd think.

the systems they come out with now like playstation3-4-5 they probably had the technology to have in 1996, but if they gave us all they had all at once theyd never make money off new systems

I don't think this current wave of systems "blows away" the previous incarnations. 360 and PS3 aren't so much better than Xbox and PS2 that it's astounding. They're better, but neither is a "giant" leap forward.

I don't know man...I saw the boxing game for 360 at Best Buy and it looked significantly better than anything I ever saw on Xbox. If you play a PS1 or N64 game right now, they pretty much look like shit. Fun games, I'm just saying graphically they look noticeably dated.

For me its all about gameplay. Graphics can be "amazing" but if the game is essentially the same, then it doesn't wow me. Call of Duty on the 360 is still Call of Duty; there's nothing new there.

Right. I couldn't agree more. I should've specified in my original post that I was speaking about graphics. I still regularly play games from the 8, 16, and 32/64 bit eras.

there's probably only so much they can do with graphics. The biggest leaps will likely be in how you interface with the game.

I believe in 30 years (if we make it that far) the technology will be so advanced from where we are today you won't even be able to compare the two...

Im thinking about a fully emersed expirence, blending the lines between our brains and a computer.

I'd be surprised if you had to wait 30 years for that.

I don't really see graphics getting drastically better in the future. If anything, the industry will concentrate on innovation, like how nintendo is doing (i.e., DS touch screen, Wii controller) and stuff.

I really hope games are like that so that our kids will look back at the games we played and pull an Elijah Wood from Back to the Future II

You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy

In 30 years, if you're playing a game with guns and your character gets shot, you'll actually die.

In case you didn't know, Nintendo is a chief member of the World Population Control Board, and this is their solution. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

graphics will peak sooner than you think.

there's only a certain amount that the human eye can handle and interpret as "being better"

we're already seeing it with speaker systems and all that. the top ones out today are the highest quality that the human ear can continue to distinguish. it cant get any better.

i just think we'll see more cool features. different screens, everything looking live action, maybe atmosphere effects (wind blowing at you thru some kind of system, heat, cold air, etc).

i'm with ya there.

that's what nintendo is all about .. 'innovation' .. nobody can even come close to the stuff they have released over the years. period.

the graphics are getting better, but right now gameplay is close to a standstill, the new nintendo might change that but xbox 360 is just an xbox with better graphics... the games are practically the same on each system
