Was just talking to a SK fan on their boards... and we realized that SK's last show, in Portland 8/11, Falls right between the 2nd leg, and Euro leg for PJ...
Its almost a given that Ed would be there, and possibly Matt, (what with his side project with Janet possibly still on, Not to mention Matt was at SK's gig in Madison Wis last October)
But what do the PJ/SK fans think the odds are of PJ returning the favor, and given SK the greatest opening band ever, for their farewell show?
(SK HATERS NEED NOT APPLY TO THIS THREAD SO BUGGER OFF)
After discussing it, I could totally see PJ doing it, BUT
PJ fans would want tickets then, which would leave many long SK fans out in the cold... So if PJ was to do that, it would be very hush hush / last min / day of the event announced thing (or at least announced after Tix are sold out)
Whats everyone else think? It would give PJ a lil warm up show before heading out to Europe...

It is highly possible. I am quite surprised that Ed never showed at a proper SK gig, even he is friends with the ladies (he did it for Death Cab for Cutie, Neil Finn, U2, Springsteen, the Who among many), so it might be the occasion. Furthermore, SK should be a special guest at the Portland benefit show. That's what the band told me when I met them after their Paris gig, just 1 month ago. I hope the "hiatus" doesn't change their plans. To return the favor, PJ members could be guests at the SK farewell show.
On the other hand, as TS808 said, a PJ appearance could steal the spotlight from Sleater-Kinney, and may not be a great idea for a last show. If they are announced, tickets would also be sold in a second, bought by PJ fans who may care, or not, about SK.
I guess we'll only see on the 11th August. If PJ appears at the show, they surely won't be announced before.
I hope a DVD surfaces for this show, I cannot make it, and if my two favorite bands share the same stage for such an occasion, I wanna see it.
Anyway, Janet's other band Quasi tours in August in the UK: I'll try to go to London and say Hi to Janet, before starting the PJ Euro tour frenzy !

Yeah, I totally agree PJ could over shadow SK thats why it would have to be announced after tickets were sold out... or not announced at all...
I was really suprised Ed didnt show up at the Chicago or Madison shows last Oct... PJ played the House of Blues in Chicago, the day before... and had no scheduled date until the South America tour...
and SK even did Fortunate Son that night... As soon as the riffs hit, i was thinking "here comes Ed..." but nope
But Matt was side stage for part of the Madison gig (which was the next night)... or at least a few of us think it was him...
Hell, I could even see Ed showing up / hangen out at the Lolla gig in Chicago...

It'd be a nice gesture provided they did it as a suprise gig.
S/K fans--how is PJ recieved in their general fan community?

Their audience has evolved a lot these last years: they got more and more exposure with One Beat and The Woods, getting the opening slot for Pearl Jam and playing festivals. From the Riot Grrl audience, they got the attention of indie fans, then alternative / Pearl Jam fans.
Like PJ fans' reactions, those of SK's fans are rather mixed (but not as extreme). Many don't care, and only know Ten singles and Last Kiss, and consider PJ like arena rock, along with U2 or the Rolling Stones (some kind of "mainstream" rock). Others (who discovered SK with PJ) share them as their favorite bands. And finally, some would rather see SK stay away from PJ: SK is a club band, on their own they play in 500 people venues. Compared to PJ's stadiums and MSG, they seem to evolve in different worlds, and I remember some posts in SK forums with people disappointed with Carrie on the same picture as The Edge ! I guess they are quite protective, and would have liked SK to remain on an indie isolated island...
Anyway, if one day I meet Ed and have only one thing to tell him, it would be "Thanks for introducing me to Sleater-Kinney". That's fair trade, when I met SK, I kept talking about Pearl Jam !

Last show ever at the Crystal! Couldn't be any other place. I'm not missing this show. I've seen a couple bands' last shows and they are always great. Would love to see Ed show up, I bet the guys will be there..

XWayne, youre stealing my line hahaha
I wore my SK shirt to Summerfest just incase i did bump into any of PJ... to tell them thanks for opening up me, and others to SK.
Odds of PJ playing... low
Odds of Ed coming on stage for a song... mid
Odds of someone from PJ being there... HIGH
