Be warned, this is pretty much a rant thread, over nothing too important. I put it here because it's kind of PJ related, but it can be moved, or locked for that matter. I'm just venting here.
So along with many other magazines, I have a subscription to Rolling Stone. As far as cover stories go, I'm rarely interested in who they feature, I mostly enjoy the other sections, particularly the stuff Matt Taibbi writes for them. Anyway, pretty obviously, I was excited to get the last one with Ed on the cover, because for once I give a shit about who the main story is about. I wait and I wait and it never comes. I sent an e-mail to customer service, who don't respond. Well, yesterday I get the latest issue, with Johnny Depp, so it's obvious I got skipped on the last one.
Well, at this point I'm a little upset about it, this is phenomena that always seems to happen whenever you're actually interested in reading an issue of whatever magazine you get. No biggie though, I figure I'll find a number to call, and they'll send it to me. Well, after going through about 2 different automated numbers, I finally get the number I'm supposed to call. I call them up, explain what's happened, when the guy begins to tell me that the cover date is June 29th, so actually, it's not late until 5 days after that. I explain to him that I've already received the newer issue, so the old one probably isn't coming, and could they please just send me another copy. Apparently not. After convincing him that it's kind of ridiculous for me to call back in another couple of days, I again ask him to just send me another one, at which point he tells me they can't, because they don't have any.
Now I don't know about you guys, but over my lifetime, I've missed a number of issues of any magazine I've ever subscribed to, and all you have to do is ask them for another one and they send it. Not this time. The conversation continues, the guy tells me he can't help me and the conversation ends. That lasts all of about two minutes until I decide that I can't believe what this jerk-wad is telling me and decide to call back. My intention is to talk to a supervisor, but this time a girl picks up the phone, who sounds really nice so I decide to just go through the same thing with her. I tell what what issue I missed and she says, "sure, we'll send it right out to you". So at this point, I tell her about what had just happened on the previous call and she explains that she is currently sitting next to a whole rack of them, and that all they have to do is print a label and send it to me. Nice resolution to the situation, but now I'm definitely not done with the jerk off who lied to me a couple of minutes before.
I end up talking to a supervisor who gives me some story about their inventory for back issues being zero, but that they do have a couple lying around that they can send me. It all ends with this guy, who sounded like a stoner going "yeah man, we'll send it to you. I mean, come on, it's Eddie Vedder right?". At least it ended well I suppose. I don't know what the point of this was, other than to rant and vent, but it just makes you wonder how little power can actually be abused by someone. I'm still skeptical that I'll get the magazine and I guess if I can still find it out anywhere I'll just buy another copy. One to read, and one to wipe my ass with, just like Ed did in Cincy.

Mine came, but pretty late compared to when it hit newsstands.

I complained to Rolling Stone via the website when I started missing items. They sent me everything I had been missing and switched me to a "lifetime" membership without question.

That sucks how that guy treated you. I emailed them thinking they skipped me the Pearl Jam issue too, but I got a response saying it was just late and I would get it and email back if I didn't. I got it last week and got the one with Johnny Depp on the cover 2 days later. They were just really late with the PJ issue for some reason.

Thanks for your sympathy, and hatred for RS for that matter. Fortunately for me, fellow RM-er TW has my back on this one so I should have no worries.

Did you have to pay for that lifetime membership?
Well, I was under the impression that I had, but they said I hadn't, but they switched me anyhow. I'm guessing whether or not I had actually paid, was irrelevant.
