i'm a fan of the tampa 2000 version, but that's mainly because the garden/immortality 1-2 punch is just phenomenal. i guess the same could be said (for me personally) to the boston 2003 show that went help, help/immortality. also biased to the cleveland 2006 version cuz i was there, but i'm sure measured to the millions of other versions out there it doesn't compare. this is honestly one of the VERY few tunes i actually prefer the studio version to the majority of live versions i've ever heard. (the other being i got shit)

i prefer studio too, i feel the same way with off he goes, but this song is amazing and i wanna hear as many great versions as possible
a line from this song always takes up my sig also... its just brilliant, easily one of eddies best lyrical efforts
I think the best versions are from '96 with the sweet intro (can also be heard on Toronto 2000).
I do agree that The '95 SPR version has the best solo.
this guy's got it right.
best solo: SPR '95
best overall version: washington 1 '95, barcelona '96, melbourne 3 '98, greenville '98, nagoya '03, pittsburgh '03, toronto '00 are a few that come to mind.

this is strictly a "because i was there" post, but i never in my wildest dreams thought that i would hear/ see this on at my first show. boston II, 9/29/04. even on my crappy ebay bootleg (it was literally days before i discovered the trading post that i bought it) it sounds great.
someone mentioned alpine valley's version. that is a stellar one. i love that boot.

I'm partial to the Benaroya version myself.
I think I'd go with that or self-pollution, but that's not really live in the same way.

go and listen to immortality from self pollution 95 then come back and apologize for wasting this young mans time..
fuck.
yep that's probably the best solo...
here's some other of my faves:
10/10/98 Seattle - Croc Cafe show opening for Cheap Trick, my fave overall version, Matt and Mike together fucking rule this version
11/4/95 San Jose - Mike was on fire this whole show, esp. Black; lots of jamming at the end of Immort
11/3/96 Berlin - has the intro, FM quality boot
11/6/00 Seattle - my "I was there" selection, but Matt does go off on the end
3/6/03 Japan - combined with the improv is just awesome
4/16/03 Charlotte - I like the solo in this one
my, what a heady show that was...vastly underrated.
ps- hate to get on my soap box here, but this show is a prime example of why i miss silver backed, genuine CD boots. I wouldn't of purchased this show if it was just downloads only.
