Don't know if there is a thread about this already, but I was in Target on Monday and saw a CD of artists covering other artist's songs and on the CD was Ben Harper covering "Indifference". So if you go to Target any time soon, be on the lookout for it.

If this was a thread already, feel free to lock 'er up. :)

I saw that the other day, too, but I figured there was already a discussion on it here somewhere, so I didn't say anything.

I think that album of cover songs is only sold at Target. It is has something to do with Rolling Stone too, right?

I went to a Ben Harper concert in Ottawa 3 years ago and was 1st row in front of the stage. I made a sign for him to play Indifference, and he pointed at me and smiled when he saw it. Then I put it up again after a few songs, and Ben gets on the mic, looks straight at me and says, "OK sir, I can see your sign... you can put it away now." I thought that was kinda rude.... anyways, he ended up playing the song with PJ a couple days later in NYC.

About as rude as holding up a sign to play someone else's song at a Ben Harper concert.

Yea Jack's cover is ok, I've got two versions of it, one of them is available here: http://www.archive.org/details/jj2005-06-11.flac16/

My fav version (aside from the binaural version) is the one from County Bowl, Santa Barbara 10.28.03 where Jack and Eddie take turns singing verses. They do Betterman together and Chris Cornell does a few songs with Eddie, it's bonerific

Well then why play it at all? I mean, if you're gonna play it at all, then don't get mad when people request it.

signs at concerts are not only inconsiderate to the band (let them playwhat they want), but they are also inconsiderate to the people behind you. would you enjoy a show if some douche kept blocking your view with a big piece of paper? come on people, think!

Like I said, I was in the first row... the sign wasn't big and didn't block anyone's view. I'm not a dick, I wouldn't that.

glad to hear it. i say that as long as you dont interfere with anyone else's experience, do whatever you want.

however, requesting a cover, whether its on a sign or yelling it out, might not go over so well with any band, which is understandable.

he was obviously interfering with ben harper, which is most important.

Holding up a little sign is not interfering. He could've chose not to say anything at all, that's my point.

well ifben harper had to say something, and he subsequently felt ben harper was being rude, ben harper was obviously annoyed, thus interfering with ben harper, is all im saying.

I got to see him cover Indifference at the Electric Factory in Philly and it was pretty sweet. Played an amazing set and seemed like a real chill dude. Seen him on a few other occasions as well (including NYII and with Jack Johnson at the Mann Center in 03?), easily my second favorite performer.
