1.) Phil Simms
2.) Dan Dierdorf
3.) The Entire ESPN Sunday Night NFL team (Theisman and crew)
4.) Bill Maas

I'll go with that order as well.

What are your choices?

This is a GREAT thread...

but I TOTALLY disagree about Simms...he's actually my favorite...

Dierdorf is horrid though...he can shove his "sooooooooo many weapons"

I like the ESPN crew as long as they aren't doing a game when Michael Vick is involved....are they on his payroll or something?

Also, as far as play by play guys...I always loved Don Criqui (sp?)...but the dude is going senile.

Part of why Simm's bugs me, is that he will latch onto a QB he likes (such as Chad Pennington) and no matter what they do or how bad they will play he will make excuses and try to deflect blame from that person.

At the last Steeler/Jets game, I was pretty sure that he was going to give Chad the Super Bowl Trophy, MVP, and induct him into the Hall of Fame...and that was after two interceptions!

That, and I find him very VERY boring and monotone.

Jerry Glanville, on the other hand, was pure entertainment!

Aikman is terrible as well.

I actually like Collinsworth because he argues with Aikman.

Jerry Glanville was great. he would say whatever was on his mind unlike these hacks that try to come up with something that seems smart. You're former football players, you don't need to sound smart to be a good announcer. Nobody expects you to be a rocket scientist. Just know your football, your situations, the obvious penalties, the obvious fumbles, whether to go for 2 or not. These are basic things that the average NFL fan knows about. At least I hope they know about all that stuff. I know every false start penalty, every situation as far as the 2 point conversion, 4th and 1's, your basic shit. The fact that these guys get paid a shitload of money and don't know this stuff really pisses me off. And they played the game so they should know! But they don't! Fucking morons, basically all of them. Ya like my rant so far?....... I just don't think you need former NFL players to fill a booth with. Howard Cosell knew what he was talking about.

I didn't see that game...but I remember when everyone was hyping Pennington two years ago and I watched a game that he was doing and he was pointing out his strengths and weaknesses pretty fairly...I don't know...I kinda like Simms boring analysis...it's alot better than the cliches of Madden and Dierdorf.

Last night's Panthers/Falcons game was embarrassing though...

Vick threw one pass into the ground and McGuire and Theismann were talking about how GREAT it was...

Also...Frank GRIFFORD was the WORST commentator of ALL time...his only job was to pronounced guys names...and he couldn't even do that...I'm sure Michael Irving and Andre Rison (when he was referring to Andre Reed) appreciated his effort.

Dierdorf today:

"That must be driving Brett wild"

Try "driving Brett crazy" Dan, because I don't think that interception he threw made him horny.

It is easy to see why Dan does not work the MNF circuit anymore!

I hope Sam Gash lands a job....

He has a radio show here in Buffalo now and he has incredible insight and is really blunt and honest.

Speaking of Buffalo guys, I think Steve Tasker is a great commentator too.

Haha....

Considering who he's had to work with over the years...I really feel sorry for Al Michaels

although I did kinda like Dennis Miller

Pre-game commentators that need to stop:

Terry Bradshaw - time to go blond bomber!
Michael Irvin - just as annoying behind a desk as on a field
Mike Ditka - fights with Irvin and its getting old
Boomer Esiason - is made of wood
Dan Marino - best described as "lummux-like" behind a camera

I have to disagree with this. I think the countdown is great, all of them together have alot of fun and it is very entertaining to watch. Especially compared to CBS and FOX. IMO

I would also like to see minature football fields and guys laughing at their own jokes disappear from pregame shows

I like Berman, Jackson, Young, and Mortenson, but I think that Irvin and Ditka have not added anything.

The ESPN crew is just AWFUL. Their bickering always manages to partly ruin a viewing experience.

I also don't like Michael Irvin and Randy Cross. Also, it's probably time for John Madden to join his old pal Pat Summerall in retirement.

Chris Collandsworth = garbage

Theisman = Get over yourself already

The majority of the Fox B list team including Moose Johnston and Troy Aikman.

Especially Tony Siragusa

oh and Chris Berman is horrid.

Hey Chris it's snowing in Cleveland and Green Bay.

Guess what. The Browns suck ass and San Diego is good it dosen't matter what the temperture is.

Green Bays Defense especially Al Harris are horrible. If Jimmy Smith didn't drop 2 he might have had 4 touchdowns.

It's time for Boomer Berman to go.

Likewise for the other Boomer....Esaison.

I like the sunday night guys, I think madden and simms are ten times worse than dan dierdorf....But by the far the worst football person doing coverage or commentary is sean salisbury, he is the worst, dan marino a close second....
