Bomb Jerusalem. No, really, hear me out.

Those of you with siblings: can you ever remember a time you and your brother/sister were fighting over the same toy, and a parent said they'd settle it by taking the toy away, leaving neither of you with it? Same concept here. Turn both side's holy city into one big smoking holy crater. Give advanced warning to get as many people out as possible. However, if someone decides to stay behind as an act of martyrdom or devotion, that's their choice. I'm not saying the US should do this, because it would only cause more problems. We'd need an outside, neutral party: Switzerland. An ideal situation would call from an even farther removed source, which I think a fake alien attack would do quite well. We can call it Project Ozymandiaz.

With any luck, the deeply religious on either side would insist it was the rapture, and stop going on about silly superstition for good, knowing that they had been judged.

And then, world peace.


It'd be a terrible loss of history, and I'd really regret it in that sense. However, history doesn't do you much good if a bunch of assholes are trying to make sure we have no future.


lets face it: there you can't work out a peace deal if each side sees the other as inferior. The real fucking tragedy of this post is that the deathtoll would likely be lower than if things coninue the way they are. And that's enough to make me pretty damn depressed.

Anyway, it wouldn't work. These countries- these peoples have been fighting for literally thousands of years. It's no longer a land issue- or a holy land issue even. It's something they've (imo anyway) hadc ingrained into them for generations.

Getting rid of the object of hate and problems for them isn't going to stop them from hating each other, it's just going to move their hatred to some new target about the other.

I didn't mean rapute in the christian sense, I just couldn't come up with a way to express the idea I was going for other than that. But if an entire city was destoyed intantly (via the alien attack idea), it's a sure thing that the deeply religious would assume it was an acto of god.

Why do you think the Irish and the English are still at it after all this time? It's about the culture each generation is brought up with. I don't know how that kind of change gets made, honestly, I don't think it's a one step solution, I think it takes a long time, and it takes a LOT of people with a sincere desire to change- I just don't see that happening very often.

Overall, Israelis are pretty secular. Much more secular than jews in north america. They wouldnt see it as an act of god.

Bombing Jerusalem, or indeed any other place in the region as a solution to the myriad of problems there is stark raving crazy talk that conveniently absolves you of having to think about the situation any further dispassionately.

There are solutions. Plenty in fact. They just won't result in peace overnight. And they won't result in any one party getting all the glory for having made it happen.
