Nicholas Roeg's Walkabout is an excellent film. He made a string of classics in the 1970s - Walkabout, Don't Look Now, The Man Who Fell to Earth (with David Bowie), and finally Bad Timing. Afterwards he seems to have fell off the earth with some relatively forgettable work.
Walkabout takes place in the Australia outback and is terrifically shot. The cinematography is gorgeous and the editing is unique and oftentimes jagged. Everything feels very mannered and very British; normally this would bother me but it didn't, probably because the subject matter was fairly remarkable. The narrative is: an upper-class English brother and sister are stranded in the middle of the Australian outback and befriend an aboriginal native.
If you've seen Man Who Fell to Earth or Bad Timing (which I think I've also posted about and a few people were familiar with), be sure to rent a copy of this.

Unfortunately, it's so elementary, and the big time investors behind the drive in the stock market aren't so stupid. This isn't the false economy of 2000.
