So anybody here familiar with Phil Ochs, 60s protest singer/songwriter guy?
Good song: The World Began in Eden and Ended in Los Angeles

Phil is amazing. One of my favorite 60's era artists. The live album is incredible, and while his albums tend to be a bit uneven his catalogue entire is fantastic.
I got In Concert yonks ago, and fell so in love with it that I went out and bought that three disc box set. No More Songs is one of the most haunting things I've ever heard, considering that it was the last song on his last studio album.

Jesus, I was reading some stuff about him:

three songs you need to here by phil ochs:
when i'm gone
pleasures of the harbor
outside a small circle of friends
i'm gonna post the when i'm gone lyrics cause i love them too much
"There's no place in this world where I'll belong when I'm gone
And I won't know the right from the wrong when I'm gone
And you won't find me singin' on this song when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
And I won't feel the flowing of the time when I'm gone
All the pleasures of love will not be mine when I'm gone
My pen won't pour out a lyric line when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
And I won't breathe the bracing air when I'm gone
And I can't even worry 'bout my cares when I'm gone
Won't be asked to do my share when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
And I won't be running from the rain when I'm gone
And I can't even suffer from the pain when I'm gone
Can't say who's to praise and who's to blame when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
Won't see the golden of the sun when I'm gone
And the evenings and the mornings will be one when I'm gone
Can't be singing louder than the guns when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
All my days won't be dances of delight when I'm gone
And the sands will be shifting from my sight when I'm gone
Can't add my name into the fight while I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here
And I won't be laughing at the lies when I'm gone
And I can't question how or when or why when I'm gone
Can't live proud enough to die when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here"
very simple song with simple lyrics, but they say a lot

funny this guy has never popped up before on any pj site until he was mentioned by ed
you're all sheep
I discovered Phil before I discovered Pearl Jam, thanks to some old vinyl I bought. He probably doesn't get mentioned much here because all in all, there aren't many fans of him.
But, you know, jumping to conclusions about people and insulting them based on nothing more than a guess is real cool.

it was a joke, sorry...I only knew of him because of my older brothers records....

Then we discovered him much the same way. It's funny, I was really excited when I first heard about Pearl Jam covering Phil, but I was really bummed to find out it was Here's to the State. I woulda prefered I Ain't Marching Anymore.
The Crucifixtion is flat out disturbing. Still wish I had managed a better attempt on No More Songs.

I love the crucifixion. way ahead of its time.
doesn't lenny live here anymore is also quite heart breaking, about people stopping by to visit lenny who lived in his apartment before him and had killed himself.
pleasures of the harbor is probably the most poet telling of sailors bedding hookers imaginable.
