Why does this news make you happy?
Quote:
Gibson was interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, and the reporter asked the star if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. “There is no salvation for those outside the Church,†Gibson replied. “I believe it.â€
He elaborated: “Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She’s a much better person than I am. Honestly. She’s, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it’s just not fair if she doesn’t make it, she’s better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it.â€
Quote:
modern secular Judaism wants to blame the Holocaust on the Catholic Church. And it's a lie. And it's revisionism. And they've been working on that one for a while."
It makes me happy bacause he's currently insane. since hitting bottom a few years ago is what sent him on his psycho religious zealotry in the first place, maybe hitting bottom again will bounce him back to reality. I miss the old mel gibson.

What he just mentioned, at least the first quote you provided, is what just about every Catholic on earth believes. There is no salvation for those outside of the church. That's not 'crazy Mel,' that's doctrine. I don't believe it myself, but it's not some stinging reproach on his mental health.
As far as the Holocaust thing goes, I'm not really sure what to think of it, but it hardly makes him 'insane.' Strong opinions tend to rub people a certain way, I suppose.

just because a great deal of people believe in nonsense doesn't mean that it can't be a "sting reproach on .. mental health."

As long as you're willing to call every Catholic on earth a 'psycho religious zealot,' then I say go fer it.

as far as the holocaust comment, its not like he is denying the holocaust happened in that quote, he is just combating the idea that the catholic church was responsible for it happening.
And the great thing about the bible... Its okay to drink, and there is no mention of driving.

if no one dies, its not a sin.
That's silly.
It really is sad how much other peoples misfortunes are celebrated on this board.

I somewhat agree. This is a misfortune that he brought upon himself. I don't like it when misfortunes happen to people (regardless if I like that person) that are nothing more than (pardon the pun) and act of God. For Mel, he made the decision to drink and drive, so it is more of a mistake that I hope he learns from, but I don't really feel sorry for him either.

No. You don't have to feel sorry for him. But celebrating because he got arrested and saying "There is a God" is something totally different.

I have no problem with ridiculing someone if its done for the sake of humor on some level (disturbing or otherwise)... what you see here is a genuine hatred and unbridled jealousy.

Agreed. I don't hate the man, I don't want to hate anyone really, but I did chuckle when I saw the headline. Then moved along with my day, because it really doesn't affect me at all.

I do like to see holier-than-thou types fall on their faces.
