I saw a truck with that bumper sticker on it. Would you really be "proud" to be a tobacco farmer? I mean tobacco has never improved anyone's life.

At best, you're enabling the self-destructive behavior of some people. I mean, people have a right to smoke, but it's clearly unhealthy. At worst, you're turning a profit by killing people with cancer. If I were a tobacco farmer, I would wonder how many people died to feed my family.

You can farm whatever people would buy, but I'd be as ashamed about being a tobacco farmer as I would be about being a porn mogul.

Yeah, but you can make an argument that cars have benefitted society. Sure, there are accidents, and they speed up global warming, but there are positives too.

Tobacco has no positive side.

Grain has no positive effects? Not to mention, beer or wine in small amounts is good for your heart. Tobacco is small amounts gives you cancer more slowly.

Whiskey, scotch, vodka, gin, etc....any of those good for you?
People have smoked since they learned how to burn things, I'm truly live and let live on this topic.

Me too, and I think B is as well.

The point is would you be PROUD to be a tobacco farmer?

It's a huge part of the regional economy where B lives, so you could be proud of that. I don't use my job as a source of personal pride, but some folks do for their own reasons and this farmer is a contributor to the economic well being of his area.

But you could make that contribution in a million different ways. So, why would someone be proud that their paying their taxes w/ what is essentially blood money?

Because it's what they do? I don't know. People take "pride" in some weird things. "Proud to be an American"...what does that even mean?

So's growing dope. In fact, coca production is a huge part of the economy in some places in South America.

"Proud to be an American"...what does that even mean?

It means "My mother's cunt was located within the geographical boundaries of the United States of America when I was pushed through it".

And I don't draw a ton of pride out of that either. :|
