You can't compare eras. Pitchers back then were expected to pitch full games, and as such, they paced themselves and rarely threw hard in middle innings/when they didn't need to. Home runs were also basically non-existant, so it didn't matter what part of the plate you caught. The guy wasn't going to hit it out.
Plus, with the ridiculous stress kids put on their arms through little league and high school, often throwing 12-6 hammer curves before they can legally drive, these kids have more wear on their arms than Cy did after his 5th major league season. The game is different.
And some kid from a little league team was actually nominated for an ESPY this year for throwing like an 80 mph pitch. This kid was like 13, and he threw 80 mph. C'mon. If Cy was doing that he'd probably have pitched half the innings he is documented as logging.

ok find the next guy who comes close from any era.. i agree with you partially but its still a 9 inning game ... plus if the KIDS are hurting, then raise the dan mound back UP. we can go back and forth all day .. its just a small point .

The height of the mound impacts the batter, not the pitcher.

oh it doesnt? tell bob gibson that.. the mound being higher would not only lower oitch counts but would cut era by atleast a full run and then u would have more inings to pitch cuz u wont need a bulpen to bail ur ass out. lets get real. your a cowboy fan i wanna like you

Yeah I realized that after I said it. In fairness, I think raising the mound would have more of an impact on the # of runs than it would on today's pitcher's arms, but that is an argument for another day.
