Since there isn't a proper thread for the mighty Clutch, I think it's high time one's started.
I have to say, at the moment, I simply cannot get enough of Clutch - their albums kick my ass so much, it's unreal. The riffery is unrivalled, their style totally unique, and the fact they are a bit "underground" makes being a fan that much more enjoyable.
I've had the opportunity to see them twice now, and they're one of the best live bands out there. Favourite album has probably got to be Blast Tyrant, although their latest, Robot Hive/Exodus is a close second. The first two songs of that album blow me away each time.
Clutch should also win some kind of award for having the best song titles ever. Highlights include... Spleen Merchant, Burning Beard, Gnome Enthusiast and What Would a Wookiee Do.
If you've never heard of them, go and pick up a copy of Blast Tyrant, or Pure Rock Fury to find out what all the fuss is about.

As previously reported, CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon will make his debut solo appearance at the the sixth annual Glasgowbury festival, set to take place tonight (July 22) at Eagle's Rock in Draperstown, Northern Ireland. More information is available at http://www.glasgowbury.ie.
CLUTCH has been confirmed as the support band for MOTÖRHEAD in the U.K. this fall. The group is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Robot Hive/Exodus", available now on DRT Entertainment. The follow-up to the acclaimed "Blast Tyrant", was produced by J. Robbins (JAWBOX, THE DISMEMBERMENT PLAN) at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY, and was mixed at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ.
So a band I like actually plays my town, and it has to fall on my fiance's b-day, making it dicey at best that I'll get to go.

I talked to my fiance about this show as soon as she got up and she said it would most likely be ok if I went. She said to go ahead and get two tickets and if she decides she doesn't want to go then I can just go.

Believe me, you don't want to miss a chance to see Clutch. Earlier this year, I saw them co-touring with Corrosion of Conformity, supported by Stinking Lizaveta. One of the best gigs I've been to, all three bands put on a great show, especially the mighty Clutch!
I think I'll go and see them when they're supporting Motorhead later this year. I've never gone to a gig just to see the support band, so it'll be a first - but I know it'll be worth it. Will get to the front for Clutch, then go and chill at the back with a beer for Motorhead. Sounds like a plan to me
I've seen Clutch numerous times and have been a very large fan for years. Although I like the departure and ensuing albums since Jam Room, I have to give Elephant Riders the nod as their best work.
clutch was my very first show ever, i was 13 and they played a little coffee house near my house. i have seen them a few times since for nostalgia, but i never bought any of there cds.

"This is probably the most 'live' album we have recorded," enthuses vocalist Neil Fallon. "We went out for a few weeks, and played the music on the road. So, when we went into the studio, all of us knew exactly what was going to happen — a first for CLUTCH. I don't know why we haven't done it this way all along, it's so much easier. We also recorded the basic tracks directly onto tape. Nothing digital in there at all. We haven't done that since 'The Elephant Riders'. And this record has a few more bluesy elements than has been the case in the past, but nothing so blatant that it could be called alien to what we do.
"This time we chose Joe Barresi to produce the album," continues Fallon. "Why him? Because he has produced some great sounding records in the past, for bands like KYUSS, TOOL, MELVINS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, to name but a few. We were based at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. It took three weeks to record, and one week to mix. Joe actually mixed 'From Beale Street To Oblivion' without us being there, as we had to bail to support MOTÖRHEAD in Europe. That's an indication of how much faith we had in the guy."
"Musically, we've become much more of a rock 'n' roll band now, as opposed to being a metal or hardcore one," reveals Fallon of the way CLUTCH has developed. "Our style is riff-oriented, with a swing. It's never been a calculated move; we just followed our instinct, and that is leading us closer to those bands to whom we listened in our childhood. Bands which are now termed as 'classic rock.'"
"This is our third album for DRT Entertainment (following on from 'Blast Tyrant' and 'Robot Hive/Exodus'). We've never previously done more than two records in a row for any other label, so this is a new territory for us! A lot of that is because this is a smaller company, and they understand what the band is about."
