Lekunk---EXCELLENT reworking of the song. Your strongest song since long road, and possibly your best. I love the harmonica.

One of my favorite songs of the tournament.

Mikey--listening to you next.

Okay--yours was also quite good mikey (a good choice for you vocally and your guitar work is good as always), and had this been up against some of Lekunk's previous entries I would have given you the nod, but I was really blown away by his Red Mosquito.

This is going to be tough....both were outstanding. I'm leaning toward lekunk but I'm going to give them both another listen.

Red Mosquito was great :) It was clever and fun. i liked all the layers throughout..the harmonica touch, everything. I thought it was all really nicely worked out.

All or none was okay, but it was pretty uninteresting for me..just a kind of stripped down version of a song which relies on a great lead guitar and great vocal delivery to match, and i just don't think either were up to scratch. I think it's my favourite of your entries so far though.

Nod goes to RM, again, nicely done :)

both of these are awesome. i'm going with RM because of the unique interpretation and instrumentation. the harmonica sounds sweet, and is that a mandolin? amazing songs, both of you. i'm getting scared now...

wow what a way to come back from the break. you guys obviously worked very hard on these.

mikey - all or none was a faithfull reinterpretation, the acoustic sounds nice and boomy and you got a nice tone on the solos. captured the mood of the song quite well. awesome job.

lekunk - i really liked the reinterpretation here. from the slow, quiet building intro to the mandolin and harmonica work. and if i'm not mistaken the accordian makes another appearance? the mandolin sounds great. one of the best of the tournament so far.

after several listens, my vote goes to lekunk. good job to both.

it is indeed a mandolin. i must say, they are a pain in the ass to record since it gets out of tune after just a few strums. (at least mine does)

one interesting note- after i recorded this i showed it to a friend and he noted that the mandolin in the begining and the harmonica throughout the verses reminded him of a mosquito buzzing around his head. this lead me to slightly pan those tracks back and forth to highlight that. its much more noticible with headphones. Leave it to those intoxicated friends to give you your pointers

mikeyisgod- excellent job, also my favorite of your entries. recording was very crisp and the tone on the electric worked well. it is difficult to give McCready's solos justice so it left me wanting a bit more but overall, it was great

no accordion in this one, sorry. I can see how you might be fooled. At times the harmonica in the background sounds similar, though, essentially, an accordion is just a giant harmonica...

finally this thing is back

ok, mikeyisgod....i think you did an awesome job with all or none...the rythym guitar sounded amazing, and you pulled off singing in two octaves....i still think your voice could have used a bit more feeling...i know this isn't your song or anything, but you have to get into it....also, the lead guitar was a little redundant and i was waiting for the high notes but they never came....everything sounded great though

leknuk, that was a really cool rendition of RM....i like how you didn't carbon copy mike's lead guitar in that song (to be honest, i hate mike's part in that song)....you gave it an indie feel, and the mandolin sounded really cool...you were a little off timing with the vocals, but it sounded really cool....and by the way, the harmonica was bad ass...

vote goes to leknuk

Hmmm...kind of struggled with both of these.

I REALLY liked the musical take on RM. Harmonica and guitar were sloppy seemingly on purpose and I dug that. Solos were nice and the separation from the standard version while not quite as far away as I originally perceived it to be, was still very cool...

However I had a very hard time with the consistent out of tune vocals esp. on the harmonies. Not sure if the dischord was purposeful or not...but it didn't sit well with me...

I liked the main guitar part on All or None a lot...the solos had good tone but seemed to lack the flow that makes them so beatuiful and haunting on the original and the vocals were consistently out of time and tune...

Of course these reviews are coming from the guy who had nothing to submit...:(

So I humbly bow to all of your collective prowess for having the talent and the balls above me to be here...

just listened to RM, finally....uh..

yea, you kicked my ass. that was like 400% better than any other entry you did. i mean, you didn't even play it perfectly as per some of the criticisms made already but the ideas you presented (and they were still executed fairly well) pretty much did me in. i tried for the stripped down which i like but yea, you take this one easily. well done....you son of a bitch.

ok, so singing is not my forte.... i'll stick to the strings. at least you all have the same critiques that i have of myself. i realize that one can always improve upon guitar/instrumental parts but singing is a hit or a miss.
mikeyisgod- dont be bitter, you will have the joy of watching my ass get handed to me next round

I'm gonna call this one early since I don't think 8 more votes are coming in the next hour and a half and I won't be on-line at 9

Congrats Lekunk58 for advancing to the finals in the main bracket. Mikeyisgod moves to the second chance bracket

Final score 12-4

Listening now

Nice job badabing. I've thought your entries were some of the most underrated of the entire tournamnet and this was a real nice soldier of love. You have one of the voices that can come closest to mimicking Eddie's and this one is no exception. I like the way you really have the bass propelling the song along too. Very enjoyable. Nicely done.

Porchball next...

Great version porchball. It reminds me a bit of booskhelf's happy when I'm crying in that I think I like yours more than the original (which I'm not a big fan of). Great tone on your guitar--it really captures the desolation in the song, and this is one of your better vocal performances. Probably your strongest entry since Angel.

I'm sorry to see Babdabing go if he loses, since I have a feeling I might like your soldier of love more than some of the other songs that might advance, but my vote goes to porchball

Great entries, guys. I think Porchball edges it though
