I understand the writers' disgust with the BCS, and not wanting to be associated with such a poorly designed concept. However, by making this move, doesn't the AP poll become completely irrelevant? I mean, who's going to give a rat's ass where they are ranked in it next year? Oh, and since when have sports writers' been filled with integrity? :)

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come as far as the BCS goes. It's such a fucking mess. Just have a playoff already you idiots!

This pretty much puts ESPN (ESPN Coaches Poll) in a monopoly position over the BCS.

If there was talk of corruption before (ESPN pundits pushing for Auburn's move up in the ranks no doubt at least in part motivated by their contract with the SEC), this is only the beginning.

When a media company has an unusual amount of pull in a rankings system, it can become less about wins and losses and more about ratings and advertising.

I could not agree more, it is about time they recognized that the BCS is garbage.

I came up with this bracket the other day... I think it's what we need

USC (#1) vs. Florida State (#16)

Miami (#8 vs. Louisville (#9)

Georgia (#7) vs. Virginia Tech (#10)

Cal (#4) vs. Michigan (#13)

Oklahoma (#3) vs. Tennessee (#12)

Utah (#6) vs. LSU (#11)

Texas (#5) vs. Iowa (#14)

Auburn (#2) vs. Boise State (#15)

I've always said 12. Mostly because I think the top ten teams should all have a shot, and I think the top four should have an advantage.

ESPN doesn't have any say over the actual poll. And they only have one vote in the AP poll as well.

I really hope they don't fold the BCS and go backwards. If it folds and there is not something to take its place then it would be back to the old, even worse way of doing things.

See, even with a playoff a deserving team will be left out. Both Tech and Louisville could make great cases as to why they should be the 8th team in the hypothetical playoff devised here. But Miami? No way. 8)
