So, for all you PJ fans, to bow his head in homage to Sleater-Kinney, Ed showed up to the their show at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon last night. It was S-K's last show before their "indefinite hiatus."

Ed came out after the first opening band, The Thermals (another Portland local band), and played 2 songs. The first was "Here's to the State of Mississippi" and the other was a duet with Janet...not sure of the song title, but it had lyrics along the lines of "I know you belong to someone else, but tonight you're mine" lyrics. Does anyone else have any info about this one?

There was a definite buzz that Ed would be there...he got a lot of cheers but not a whole lot of gasps of surprise. One of the first things he said was that there is not any place in the world that he'd rather be than there tonight, and he said there are a lot of bands that he wished that he could see in his lifetime, but couldn't, such as the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who w/ Keith Moon, but he feels fortunate to have been able to see Sleater-Kinney in his lifetime. He holds them to some pretty fantastic esteem to put them in a category with those music legends. Mid-way through the show, Corin thanked Ed for coming down to be a part of the show, that it was pretty cool and it meant more to them than he knows.

Enough about Ed...for you Sleater-Kinney fans, the show totally fucking rocked! There were video cameras everywhere throughout the venue filming the ladies in their godly rock grace and the explosive crowd, so everyone will get to experience this page of rock history soon. Most of the cameras were digital, but I also spotted a guy with a super-8(?) camera...so I'm thinking a DVD will be in the works.

Please let me know if anyone taped this thing! I have some photos, but have no idea how to put them on this page...

Peace.

the duet with Janet was a song from the movie 'The Jerk', sung by Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters called 'Tonight You Belong to Me'. Ed on the uke and some killer harmonizing! Funny song too. Incredible, emotional night. Ed was handing out picks to every person that talked to him. Very gracious, humble and appreciative of S-K when I spoke with him briefly.

It's a song that was written in 1926 and re-recorded in the 50's by patience and prudence, got nowadays famous with an ebay commercial. it was in a steve martin movie in the seventies, where martin played it on a uke. well at least if it's the song I'm thinking of.

I was talking to one of the camera guys. He said they had been filming stuff for SK for a number of years. He also told me the guy with the film camera wasn't associated with their project.
