Anyone who can give a description of what they sound like would be great. I have heard the name dropped here and there but never heard them myself. I might have to check them out.

Have you heard Slint? Dave Pajo is the guitarist in both bands, so they have some great riffs throughout the songs, but it's a little more expiremental, with some odd instruments and passages of strange sounds and such. Nothing that hard to get into though, although their most well known song ("Djed") is about 20 mintues. Try that song "Glass Museum," it's very pretty and has an excellent guitar part.

Great band. Have their roots in krautrock and but the material is more precise and less jammy. Instumental with varied instumentation, acoustic, electronic and amplified. Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT are both excellent. The new compilation of outtakes and rarities "Lazarus Taxon" is also excellent. Get on it!

Has anyone heard this? It's very cheap for a 3CD/DVD compilation.

Anyways, Tortoise is awesome. I think I might try to see them next week if tickets aren't to expensive. I can't wait to listen to Standards, I just got it and it seems really nice.

i haven't listened to these guys in a while... i think that needs to be remedied
I finally got my ass around to really checking these guys out, and I'm damn impressed. I had IAAY, and thought it was ok. TNT is kicking my ass so far. Millions Now Living...is downloading now. And Spiderland by Slint is also on its way.
