This will be the first movie i will see in the theatre since Blow. I heard about this Papale guy but never knew any specific details. I got the book yesterday and ripped through it in a couple of hours. It's an amazing story and i don't see why it can't be as good as Rudy on the big screen. I'm a bit skeptical because it's a Disney movie but The Rookie and Miracle were decent movies. I'm sure most old school Eagles fans will want to see this.

As a lifelong Eagles fan, I will most definitely be seeing this. I'm interested to see how Greg Kinnear does as Dick Vermeil, to be honest. Dick was a very emotional guy and I'm wondering if Kinnear has what it takes to make us see that.

Friday Night Lights is really great. Growing up in Southeast Texas, where football is the pinnacle of existence, they nailed it in the movie. Great performances, too.

Friday Night Lights is really great. Growing up in Southeast Texas, where football is the pinnacle of existence, they nailed it in the movie. Great performances, too.
It's my 2nd favorite sports movie of all time(behind Without Limits). Plus it has the best soundtrack ever in a sports movie. My wife makes me change it when Boobie cries in the car cause she can't handle it(neither can I). The movie dumped all the cliche bullshit and did almost everything right with it(the only problem i had with it was some of the truths in the real story). You don't have white guys trying to be black and singing R & B, you don't have the happy ending, you don't have the horrible acting by the guys portraying the players. It's all gold and the best movie i've seen in 5 years

Agreed. Remember the Titans was way too preachy and feel-good. Too cookie cutter and Disneyfied to ring true and be truly affecting.

Okay, I just got back from seeing this piece of shit. Talk about a disappointment.
If you literally combined the movies Rocky and Rudy, you have Invincible. There isn't a single original or seminal idea in the entire movie. I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking...but I was expecting something. I got nothing but cliche after cliche after cliche.
Maybe I'm biased because I've been an Eagles fan my whole life and know a lot about the history of the team, but this was just horrible. In one of the most embarassing cinematic rip-offs ever, the hero runs through South Philly while he's "training." Had he run up the steps of the Art Museum I would have vomited right in my seat and demanded my money back.
The only redeemable aspect of this movie was Greg Kinnear's performance as Coach Dick Vermeil. As all can see in an earlier thread, I was apprehensive about this from the beginning. Well, he fucking nailed the role, and I mean nailed it. But other than that, this is just complete garbage.

I thought Wahlberg just mailed his performance in; the real Vince Papale was nowhere near as emo. And Kinnear was just perfect as Dick Vermeil: tough but compassionate.
And for the love of God, the love subplot was just ridiculous and belonged nowhere in this movie.

I thought the movie was sub-par as well. Maybe if i didn't read the book first i would have thought it was better. There were so many holes in the movie that weren't dealt with. Papale's real story was much more appealing than how the movie portrayed him. Papale was a world class athlete in trackn and field and none of that was mentioned. They also didn't mention him playing for the WFL which is how he got a tryout with the Eagles. The whole "Tv reporter" thing was the biggest bullshit ever. It totally annoyed me, plus there wasn't "open tryouts". Very dissapointing cause his story is a great one and they just made it too Disney and Hollywood when they didn't have to do that.
