Both of these albums end up on the "retracking" threads more than any other it seems, and I agree. But which do you think had the better songs in general? Which session do you think was the most creative?
I have to say it's Binaural, I see a really great record in the songs from that period that was never fully realized on the final album. The same goes for Riot Act but to me, a lot of the RA songs themselves seem unrealized where a lot of the Binaural songs like Insignificance, Sad, and Parting Ways seem perfect and show a more coherent idea both musically and lyrically as to what the album could have been.
I know some like it as it is and say they are perfect, and I like them both too, but don't love them and have always felt something was missing to make them great.

Binaural has better songs, whereas Riot Act has better production.
Binaural will always suffer from its atrocious production value. Riot Act, although not much better in this department, is still good enough to beat out its predecessor.
Can't Keep-4
Save You-4
I Am Mine-5
You Are-3.5
Down-4
Undone-4
at different times LBC, Ghost, Thumbing My Way, 1/2 Full, Green Disease, and all or none have been on that list. But none are there now.
so there is more depth for me from the binaural sessions.

i would take the straight up binaural over riot act with the 3 B sides, i love both albums( like all of them) but binaural is better for me, and if you add sad and fatal then you have a no contest

This isn't even close for me. I don't like 1/2 the songs on riot act. I like almost all the songs on binaural. Get Right and Ghost are make my ears bleed.

binaural has more good songs but...
i lost RA - i don't plan to buy it anywhen soon, i gotta put a tape on my binaural cassette tape cos it broke since like a year..
i listened to avocado (the album, not the RMer) and no code this week and i fixed my yield cassette this afternoon and gave a good listen to side 2...i don't miss that sort of blank period except for :
breakerfall
grievance
sleight of hand
soon forget
parting ways
can't keep
green disease
all or none
thank g_d they put out "pearl jam" with good rockin' tunes - it's their best album since uh vitalogy or no code
so--------binaural wins it for me (not including the lost dogs tracks)

I think that if Riot Act had been their final record, then I wouldn't like it nearly as much as I do knowing that they still have the potential to make more classic albums such as s/t. It would have felt like they went out with a whimper rather than a bang. Now that it's a record in between two solid records, I feel better.
That might not have made any sense.

It does.
