Now that the election has come to a pleasant conclusion where we have all decided to abandon partisan politics and smoke pot we can now return to the issues that matter in this country:

Teen sues over Confederate flag prom dress!

She said she worked on the design for the dress for four years, though she acknowledged that some might find the Confederate flag offensive.

"Everyone has their own opinion. But that's not mine," she told reporters outside the courthouse. "I'm proud of where I came from and my background."

Yes, how very nice of her.

Well said, she is rather homely and I think after seeing it one has to wonder how ghawdy it is after she put so much effort into the garment

This is in bad taste in several ways, but I think I would support her right to wear the dress, and I think the ACLU ought to be on this case. Truth is, the best way to combat the hateful implications of symbols is to reclaim them into non-hateful contexts. This context seems pretty innocuous.

Yo, her name is DUTY.

I'd buy you a drink if it weren't for the fact that I am a broke college student.

I correlate discussions on issues such as this to something I recall George Carlin stating during Gulf War: Part I. When referring to banners and ribbons, flags etc. he said, "I consider these things symbols, and I leave them to the symbol minded."

Later I'll try to remember to post an old political cartoon I have on my computer about racism and the confederate flag. Actually, I can think of two really good ones that I've got. I'll post them when I get home.

I never pinned you for one that would collect political cartoons related to the Confederate flag. Also, were you using the "my nigga" comment as a pun, if so....

Sort of a "pun". More like a good example of a word that is being reclaimed from hate.

And when you see the cartoons I'm referring to, I think you'll understand why I saved them. :D

They told her the dress would not be allowed, and she decided to give it a shot and wear it anyway. Suing for damages after you've entrapped them is weak.

I think its pretty.

In addition it was/is my personal experiment with social tolerances on the internet. Personally the avatar is just an attempt to alter the hateful interpretation of the rebel flag because I feel it simply perpetuates another useless stereotype which wouldnt necessarily apply to me if we were to happen upon each other on the street, but is an equally despised stigma that could be used to represent people I have grown up with. A fallacy that has endured for too long. You are, of course, entitled to believe I am the one percieving this issue from the wrong direction. I found it particularly appropriate considering bellicose history behind it, then again I find dissent to be intriguing and dont mind fostering it from time to time. Again thats my ethos, not yours.
