the best acting in this movie is the scene outside the diner after deniro just learned tommy had just been whacked. the display of 'affection,' i guess you'd say, between deniro and liotta is unreal. it's just so awkward.

"yeah, it just didn't work out."

"what do you mean it didn't work out"

I love the way he freaks out and beats the phone with the handset.

Great movie.

I tend to agree with this. The cocaine stuff is good, but it feels .. not tacked on, but to me it doesn't flow with the preceding stuff as well as it should. But I love the Henry Hill paranoia breakdown scene.

well i think it just goes to show the downfall of a mafia guy. he couldn't do what he was doing after getting busted and moved onto something else. that ended up being his downfall.

Yeah, I know. I guess it's not quite as electrifying as the rest of the film, but that's unavoidable, because that part of the story is, like you said, focused on his downfall, his downward spiral. And a fitting closing, signifying tha no good end can come of all theis mob business. And I love the last moment of the film, it's so funny, sad, ironic and electric, all at once.

This lost the Academy Award for best picture to Dances With Wolves. How fucking funny is that?

I can't find one flaw with this movie, and mister, I've looked for them. This is about as perfect as a movie can get. Every single thing is golden: the camerawork, the acting, the pace, the soundtrack. Hell, even the sound is great for a "talkie". This is filmmaking at its finest.

the part where the second half of layla is playing (i won't ruin it for those who haven't seen it) was a fantastic song selection... i can't hear it without thinking of that scene
