This kid deserves his own thread on RM. I'm not doing this soley because I'm a Phillies fan. A second year player is tied for the league lead in HRs with 43. He's tied with David Ortiz. Let's see who'll win, I predict a good race to the end of the season between these two big boys. But congratulations Ryan Howard for sharing your amazing talent with baseball and its great fans.

hes the type of prospect Ive been waiting to see come from the Dodgers all star farm system, theyve been promising us at least ONE of these kids is gonna be a big bopper, so far no go.

I've watched far too much baseball in my 38 years but never have I seen a guy with this much opposite field pop...seems like at least half of his home runs are the other way. He's the real deal and I don't like the Phillies one bit.

If he and the Phils finish strong he should get some serious MVP consideration. He is likely to finish with around 55 HR and 150 RBI's with a .300 average. Those are MVP numbers.
His opposite field power (and lack of speed) reminds me of my favorite player of all time, Fred McGriff.

Added note: of Howard's 43 HRs this year 24 have been at home and 19 on the road (in 11 less road games). Slugging .631 at home and .621 on the road.
Citizen's Bank isn't what makes this guy a montser slugger.
it helps. i hope everyone caught the 330 as an exaggeration. anyway, those dimensions don't seem far off on first glance. however, philly completely lied about the dimensions the first couple of years of that park's existence, then bogusly moved the fences back five feet in a futile attempt to reconcile the difference. it also has that little bullshit outcropping in left center before it goes straight back to 409 in center. that place is a home run haven, and that's beyond dispute. citizen's bank is in the top third of home run parks and shea is in the bottom third. so is dodgers stadium. petco and dolphins stadium are down there too, for what it's worth.
howard's greatness as a power hitter is beyond dispute as well, has been for a few years now.
