Looks interesting. Directed by Brian de Palma. It's about the murder of 1940's actress Elizabeth Short. I guess it would fall into the genre of film noire. I'm not a big fan of Josh Hartnett, but the cast looks very respectable and the trailer makes this one look very entertaining, imo. Also stars Scarlett Johansson, Hillary Swank, and Mia Kirshner.

James Ellroy is a hero. If this is even half as good as the book, it will be fantastic.

I'd be more interested if Josh "I look like a homicidal drifter" Hartnett wasn't the lead.

Man, I just got back from watching Miami Vice tonight and they played the trailer for this film. The same trailer as above, but it looked even better when on the big screen. I have a feeling this one's gonna be great.

I'm a big fan of De Palma and film noir, so this is a must-see for me.

I still like him. I think you tend to overestimate my love for him, though. Now insult Kubrick, Polanski, or Kazan...them's fightin' words.

By the way, I don't think it's been mentioned yet - that is one KICKASS poster.

I watched this earlier tonight. It's a decent movie, certainly interesting and well shot. The characters are interesting and the acting is good for the most part, but I still thought it was pretty uneven. The pace never felt quite right for me and there were a few characters that we definitely needed to know more about, and a few that we probably shouldn't have been bothered with at all.

On the upside, it's very convincing in it's time placement and sets and overall an enjoyable piece of noir. Perhaps it will benefit from a second viewing but right now my feeling is that it just could have been more. It definitely has piqued my interest about the real case though, creepy stuff.

I was going to see this last night but decided not to. I found out that this movie is based on some guy's book that was highly fictional on the case.

No thanks.
