if you go to pearljam.com, you can go to song list and sort by Covers and then see how many times they've been played...

soldier of love is good, gotta include the essentials(Crazy Mary, RITFW, Baba). And I'd throw in a good version of Crown of Thorns.

Nah, compare both originals with their respective covers. Otis' version of Dock of the Bay is a beaut. The original Soldier of Love sucks ass; Pearl Jam made it a great song.

SoL wins.

sonic reducer is a good one, especially from an early 90s show. i've got you is great. they also played a few cool covers w/ some guy in chicago last year. i forget the guys name, something plant?

you know i have smething similar to that because the first time i heard baba was PJ covering it...so ive always liked it more than the whos original. i know a lot of people would disagree with that, but i just think PJ does it better...

I'm surprised no one mentioned Masters of War yet.

I've always really enjoyed Ed's cover of blue, red, grey.

i kinda dig the covers that sound like they could've been written by pj themselves. they outdo themselves on the 3 minute punkers like sonic reducer, i believe in miracles, and the american in me.

i hope that one day a studio version of rockin' in the free world surfaces. soooo many bands have covers of it, but not one version has ever been better than even the shittiest pearl jam take on it.

Ive made a few mix cover cds
one with the "punk" songs
one with the "protest" songs
and one with the "oldies"

but im going to break up the "protest" songs one of these days, and have one disc of the Eddie only / duet / acoustic covers, the other with plugged in protest covers. Mostly because it will allow me to use the 92 Masters of War (on the acoustic disc) and the plugged in 06 version on the other.

But I also did toss on a version of Long Road I have from an REM concert featuring Ed and Mike... one of my all time fav versions of that song.

THink I might end up making one with Ed with other bands too, to put on those doors covers, and Who covers some where.
