If you were stranded on a desert island with and could only choose 10 films to watch for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Mine:
The Fearless Vampire Killers
High Tension
The Godfather
A Clockwork Orange
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
Port of Shadows
Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Punch-Drunk Love

Honorable Mentions:
Dawn of the Dead (1978 )
Chinatown
Lost In Translation
The Shining (1980)

You get a TV and a DVD player. Just films, though - no box-sets.

it's still impossible, to just pick 10 films, i'd rather pick 10 records anyways, though that'd be impossible to pick as well...sorry i'm no help lol

Jesus wept, this is hard.

I'm assuming I'd have top 10 albums and books as well, so I'm going for pure cinematic favorites. These aren't all-time top ten favorites, these are Desert Island Necessities that will cover all the bases:

Goodfellas
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Fellowship of the Ring (extended edition)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Empire Strikes Back
Shaun of the Dead
Almost Famous (Untitled Edition)
The Incredibles
Traffic
Apocalypse Now (redux)

If I didn't have books or records, the list would be modified to include High Fidelity, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Last Waltz, and Single Video Theory.

i'd go for pure entertainment, since i'd be on the island by myself and have no one to share my critique of the film with.

fight club
sin city
conan the barbarian
gladiator
american psycho
office space
dawn of the dead
snatch
lock stock and 2 smoking barrels
the bourne supremacy

These were considered but eventually dropped. Every time I see a "desert island" opportunity I rush excitedly to answer, and am always frustrated by the end of the exercise.

This is impossible, so I'll just go with the shit I know I could watch the most times.

Pulp Fiction
Dawn of the Dead
Dazed and Confused (I'm assuming there's something to smoke on the island)
Fight Club
Almost Famous
Mulholland Drive (I'd want something to think about, and some girl on girl action for the island)
Clerks
The Devil's Rejects
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Reservoir Dogs

i was kinda going with this mode of thinking as well. there were many films i could have put in the place of conan the barbarian, but that film just has sentimental value to me. i must have seen it over 50 times in my life.

Same here. I could have easily put Sin City in over Mullholland Drive or something, but I was trying to represent different types of movies. I figure if you've only got 10 you're going to need something for different moods.

I'd throw Blue Lagoon on the list. One for the nakedness, you need something to help get by, and secondly for the irony.
