What are some great director-actor duos, where the actor is in a lot of the directors movies, and the partnership is a really good one?
Some that jump to mind for me
Tim Burton-Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow)
Martin Scorsese-Robert De Niro (Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas)
Martin Scorsese-Leonardo DiCaprio (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and the soon-to-come/looking-good-so-far, The Departed)
David Fincher-Brad Pitt (Se7en, Fight Club) There's also another partnership between these two coming, called The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Pitt's best stuff was these two movies, so this looks promising.

Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson. They only made one movie together, but Kubrick wanted Jack to star as Napoleon in an epic biopic. It would have been awesome.

As a Bond fan, I really feel like adding the pairing of Sean Connery and Terence Young to the list. They were together for Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Thunderball, all excellent films with FRWL being the film that many consider the best of the series.
Spielberg - Harrison Ford (did anyone else mention them?)
edit: now that I think about it...I think they only did the one character together....

Here's another one I just thought of, although I don't think it counts, because I've only seen one of these three movies, but its a cool little tidbit I've noticed on my occassional IMDB look-arounds.
Tim Robbins has directed three movies, Bob Roberts, Dead Man Walking, and Cradle Will Rock. Jack Black has appeared in all three. I'm not entirely sure why, but it's a cool bit of trivia.
