they're going to have to recover 30 years of lost progress, that's what now.

I'm not the one that needs to explain myself. You are. Just exactly what the fuck is gonna take more than...TWO years to recover from in Lebanon?
I'm not trying to take away or devalue those that lost loved ones here either. You can't put a date of recovery on loss of life. But strictly speaking about infrastructure, it'll take two years tops. It's not like these people are gonna debate about what to do with whats destroyed. They're gonna remove the rubble, and they're going to rebuild.
What takes so long about repairing a runway?
What takes so long about building new apartments?
What takes so long about patching new roads?
The longest repairs to the infrastructure will be some of those bridges and some of the highway infrastructure. And detours may be a bitch, but even most of that should be done in a year, two years tops.
Especially when you now take into consideration all of the aid that's flowing into Lebanon now.

i didn't say it'd take them 30 years to rebuild. i said they have to rebuild 30 years of building.
i can see it taking 5 years or so to rebuild the destruction there. that's reasonable. but it's still 5 years of lost progress. instead of going forwarding, they're stagnant.

There is absolutely no possible way you can substantiate saying that "30 years of building" in Lebanon was destroyed. That's BS and you know it.
A few apartments here and there and strategic choke points in roads and bridges maybe constitutes two years of building.
If that was 30 years of development wasted, then what on earth was the time frame on what Syria did to Lebanon. A couple centuries?

I don't know how long it wil take to rebuild. But in America its been 5 years and nothing has really happened with WTC. So who knows really.

True. And as long as they don't use union labor, Lebanon will be built pretty quickly.
But, it is a whole different situation than the WTC rebuild. I feel for people like that. I just couldn't imagine being in my house one minute, the next its just a big pile of rock and dust. For the individual (to humanize it) it must seem like an impossible task.

One wonders how long. I hope citizens can at least pickup the broken pieces and go on with their lives.
I hope the people of Lebanon will be able to as well. I also hope, for their own sake, that they will wise up and turn their backs on Hezbollah instead of gleefully taking cash handouts from the same people that started the conflict.
If there is round 2, I don't think the Israelis will hit the brakes when the UN comes up with another "peace proposal." The existing one will not disarm Hezbollah...therefore it is rather meaningless.

How are Lebanese going to "wise-up" and turn away from Hezbollah after Israel bombed their country for a month? You think they give a damn who started it? I'm not saying it's right either, you assholes. Fucking Christians were supporting Hezbollah. I don't get how Israel's latest activity solved anything. Why do they even bother dealing with the UN?

I'm neither a prude nor am I thin-skinned, but I do believe in having a civil debate. I'm done.

Fine by me. You would have accused me of sympathizing with or apologizing for terrorists anyway, so it's not like anything I can say would make you change your minds.

I think the concept of stability is what took 30 years to build. Now, structurally speaking, much of that will be done by Hezbollah. However you interpret what went on during this period of conflict, no one can deny that Hezbollah gained a lot more supporters through their defiance. This radicalisation of the populous is what's going to take a long time to recover from.

The majoristy of the lebanese people dont like Hezbollah, but one cant deny that they were a bunch of pussies to fight against it.
