i went to the Pats game on saturday and after what i saw and heard, that it is time for pro football to jettison the cheeleaders.
i've been to a ton of games and i always watch the cheerleaders. the choreography of their routines is nothing short of terrible. as a former dancer, i feel embarrassed for them. all they are is something to look at: an ass wiggle here, a hair flip there, an occassional titty shot on the big screen. they don't produce any team spirit at all.
i just don't understand why is there such a high level of skill needed for college cheerleading, but when you get to the pros, you barely even need to be able to dance to get on the squad. for years i have been wondering, what is the point to pro cheerleaders if this is the state of it?
but the real reason i think that the cheerleaders need to go is that i finally heard other people grumbling about them: to be more specific, i heard men grumbling about them. an exact quote: "don't clap, it will only encourage them."
so what do you all think? is it time to get rid of this token effort?

I agree but the teams don't care. They are just something to look at and they get paid next to nothing. Dancing for a pro team is a resume builder for these girls...the NFL keeps them off the street and out of dirty magazines (most of the time).

I can't tell you how many time I have been to a NFL game and the drunk guy next to me says, "they are cute, but their choreography is off today".
the cheerleaders are there and fine. The second they are gone, they are forotten. What else are you going to put out theere during commercial breaks. It's better than the mascot doing a stupid dance.

i understand that they are there as eye candy, and i know no one but an ex dancer would ever comment on choreography...but that is why i have never said anythign up until t his point: when men start to complain about how bad they are, that means i am not the only one noticing.
if they are there for eye candy, and i fully endorse eye candy, then why not get the real cheerleaders from the colleges to do real cheers instead of bump and grind numbers to steppenwolf?

Favorite childhood memory: When my brother and I decided to take our diapers off and paint our play room with while our parents were out. My poor mom came home and cried and had to clean it all up, but my brother and I thought we were really creative!
that does not make any sense.

Haha...I think the word 'poop' needs to be inserted between 'with' and 'while'.

i t hink that if she can remember being in diapers that she was in diapers until she was 4 years old.
and if the parents were not home, then the babysitter must have gotten in some BIG trouble.

yeah, for the most part it's pretty nonsensical, but they only make about 50 bucks a game each, they are important for the promotions department of the team, and honestly, besides generally looking hot in thier outfits, no one other than dancers really care about the awful coreography. Honestly, other than former cheerleeders and dancers, no one even pays attention to cheerleaders for anything other than eye candy sure it's cool that they can do flips and twists 30 ft in the air and then trust some guy to catch them, but most people are there for the game.
One difference, in college I believe it's considered sport. They actually make more than pro "dancers" because the college cheerleaders are scholarshiped in many cases. It's less rah rah and UDA UCA (what have you) and more sex sells in the pros. They probably have a more limited budget than in many major colleges too.
They work mainly for promotions and only get paid on gameday unless hired for a party. 50 bucks a game and they don't get to keep the outfits either I think is what it was last year or that's what our girls told me. It's simply something else to put on a resume, if you wanted modelling gigs or something like that. Keith Brookings former girlfriend and last years PMOY got a start as a Falcons Cheerleeder.

There's also a few pro teams that don't have cheerleaders. I know the Steelers are one of them (thanks Josh for bringing this to my attention months ago).

i know they get paid shitty, and i think they have to pay for their superbowl rings if they want them.
it just seems like it is a useluess thing for a team to be paying for (the pats cut their squad in 1/2 a few years ago)...why not get rid of the "pro" cheerleaders and give that time to high school squads? wouldn't that be a total thrill for a kid to get to cheer on a pro field? teams could even use the pittance they spend on cheeleading and give a kid a scholarship to college.

Pro teams need marching bands.
I concur. This needs to be put to the proper music:
(Verse)
Hail the colors Blue and Silver let them wave.
Sing their song and cheer the Gridiron Heroes brave,
Fighting for fame, winning the game,
Dashing to victory as they go.
(Chorus)
Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!
this is , but Gillette Stadium is picking a new touchdown song...getting rid of the pedophile glam rock of Gary Glitter...
what songs are played in other stadiums for touchdown celebrations? the list we have to choose from is really LAME.
