Variety.com wrote:
Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous), is set to direct the new upcoming Pink
Floyd movie. The film follows the life and times of Roger "Syd"
Barrett (guitarist/vocals), Roger Waters (bassist/vocals), David
Gilmour (guitarist/vocals), Nick Mason (drummer) and Richard Wright
(keyboardist).

"I have been a fan of theirs for years. Once I heard about Syd's
untimely passing, I knew I had to finally do this movie. Pink Floyd
practically invented psychedelic rock, it's time they get the credit
they deserve," Crowe said.

Ashton Kutcher has been cast portray Roger Waters, the bassist for
Pink Floyd. Roger Waters, best known for The Wall, split from the
band in the early 80s. He reunited years later for the Live 8
concert series hosted by actor/musician/activist, Bob Geldof.

"Back on the set of That 70s Show, we'd always relax to some Floyd.
It's just cool to be part of that," Kutcher said.

Johnny Depp will portray wayward genius Roger "Syd" Barrett. Barrett
was only with the band for three years, yet inspired not only Pink
Floyd but many other musicians, including ex-Blur guitarist Graham
Coxon.

"I always choose roles with depth, Syd had depth. He truly was an
enigma." Depp told, French Newspaper, Le Monde.

And apparently, Charlie Kaufman is writing the script. I like this news.

This could be good, although I don't know why the hell Ashton Kutcher is going to play Roger Waters.

hmm. true stories on bands turned into movies are hardly ever good. Its just so lame looking at actors portray real life musicians. and ashoton kutcher? hmmm....

but knowing depp is involved, im sure it will be very cool.

Kutcher isn't that bad. He has a bad reputation as a moronic comedy actor, but he showed some depth in The Butterfly Effect, and he definitely bears a resemblance to Waters. Give him a chance.

Charlie Kaufman is a definite plus. It'll be interesting to see him pairing w/Cameron Crowe for this. I don't mind Depp as Syd...he'll at least give the role some grace. But Ashton as Roger Waters!? Someone please say we're being Punk'd (sorry, couldn't help it). The guy is horribly annoying, at best. As mentioned, this and the other members of PF should be represented by Brit actors. Good call.

Is this the story of Syd Barrett or the story of Pink Floyd through the years?

I truly hope this is great, but I have my doubts. As of late, Hollywood biopics have really disappointed me.

That doesn't matter to Hollywood. All that matters is the raping and pillaging of facts to make a better story and make more $$$. I'd actually be surprised if they even attempt a Britsh accent.

I'm a HUGE Syd fan, but I think this is going to be a fucking car crash.
