I found this very interesting. Air travel didn't change much long term, defence spending had a massive jump post 9/11 (unsurprisingly). The increase in hate crime post 9/11 is a pretty depressing statistic.

I think this is wrong. Americans have realized Bin Laden is not the all powerful boogeyman Bu$h made him out to be, so interest in his capture has been reduced to a Bill Maher punchline.
this is going to sound stupid, but i think 9/11 killed the star trek franchise.
well, rick berman had a lot to do with it too but the show "enterprise" was jsut starting when the attacks happened. my husband and i watched two seasons of fairly good star trek stories with a cast that had some potential (2001 and 2002 seasons) ...then all of a sudden the story line changed to a "revenge, let's save the earth from the xindi threat" thing.
the third season, the 2003 season, was a huge long idiotic tale of going after some aliens that had attacked earth. it totally paralleled what was going on in the world, and it killed my star trek.
no one wanted to watch humans going out and exploring anymore as in the days of star trek past. they wanted to see humans going on revenge missions, and that just does not fit with gene roddenberry's star trek universe.

If anything, it killed a budding genre of blockbuster action villains. After the Cold War ended, Islamic terrorists were just starting to take over. I doubt too many moviemakers are going to dabble in that often.
True Lies still is one of the best action movies ever.

I don't think that assertion would hold up if you polled Americans. I don't think the vast majority of Americans know the difference between terrorism and Osama bin Laden.
