Seriously, this league is a joke. It's amazing to me that a league that is this rich can't spend more money on competent officials. They are horrid. I watch a LOT of baseball and hockey, and I think the officials blow a major call in about 10% of the games. In the NFL, you are lucky to have only 3 blown calls. Yet, I watch college football and they don't seem to have near the problem of the NFL.

Look at the playoffs last year! The patriots were screwed, the bucs were screwed, the steelers were almost screwed against the colts, and in the end, the officials had a major impact on the outcome of the super bowl.

To me, fans of a league that makes so much money deserve better.

Pfft. The league's too busy making deals with television networks and slowly working to get tackling outlawed to bother with paying for full-time officiating professionals.

I haven't watched too much of the action around the league today other than Pats-Bills, but boy was it bad in New England.

Seriously, both teams were offsides, making false starts, holding, and none of it was called. I don't think there was a bias in the officiating, I just think it was incompetent, much like the last super bowl. It's almost as though the officials are making calls at random.

I thought the Cowboys/Jaguars game was pretty well officiated, for what it's worth. Dallas fans may complain about the Reggie Williams' TD catch, but I thought the call (or non-call) was good. The Boys just played like fried shit.

Should we add that awful offensive PI call on Carter just now?

The offiviating in the NFL is not even average. However, it's a fast paced game with very tough rules/penalties/individual moments. It's not easy to be an NFL ref, that's for sure.

I agree, but there are some calls that are inexcusable, regardless of how fast the game is going.

As an example, Bills safety Donte Whitner intercepted a Brady pass today and started running toward the end zone. There was an illegal block in the back by a Bill and a flag was thrown, but then the whistle was blown as well, immediately. The only time a play should be whistled dead on a penalty is if the ball-carrier steps out of bounds. Whitner wasn't even close. The closest he got to the sideline was maybe a yard. A touchdown there wouldn't have counted because of the penalty, but regardless, the ref was just flat-out wrong.

There's simply no excuse for blowing the whistle there, unless the ref is legally blind. And if he's legally blind, what the eff is he doing working as an NFL referee?

being legally blind is a job requirement to ref. Didn't you know?
