Well, we've given them all a week of the regular season--what impressions have they left on you?
Here's what I think so far:
1. CBS: Keep it simple, stupid. They made the graphics a bit cleaner, but not much of a change. Most of the announcers is good--the only exception is probably Randy Cross. Yes, I know I'm biased and not many like Shannon's presentation, but I've always been a big fan of their preshow.
2. NBC: Same old from Al and John, but I like the extra personnel they're bringing on. Peter King especially brings a fresh angle. Bettis still needs to get in a groove, he hasn't been away from the game that long. Good promise here.
3. FOX: The overkill with graphics and sound effects has already been mentioned. The pregame seems to really lack without JB around. I probably need to watch it a little more to get a fair opinion, but not too impressed so far.
4. ESPN: They would have been waaaay down in the cellar if not for tonight's calling. Seriously, Jaws and Vermeil should replace the Three Douches right now. If that doesn't happen, at least they should put Jaws back with the Countdown Crew--he provides a lot of analysis. I like putting Berman in place of Stu Scott.

1. CBS - They are clearly the best, and even as a non-Broncos fan i think Randy Cross is terrible
2. NBC - John and Al are still gone, but they are getting a little stale, but assuming that they dont have that terrible pre-game show every week then the broadcast as a whole is good.
3. ESPN - I did not get to see much of the first game due to class, but kornheiser was not very good, but i dont have much a problem with teirico as most of you do. But like i said in the nfl thread the second crew as good to very good considering they havent had alot of work together. If i was espn i would made the decision based on who would have been better announcer, not based on names.
4. FOX - All around bad. A lot of it stems from my hatred for Joe Buck, but it really isnt unwarranted, he is not a very good announcer, and he was complaining non-stop during the post game show. And the guy doing the in game updates was not very good, whoever he was. The sound effects are just plain stupid
ESPN-- i like the extras of ESPN and everything but Tony almost makes me put them at 3rd
NBC-- Michaels is almost good enough to make them 2nd but Madden gets on my nerves and im not big on the extras .. however FOOTBALL Night in America is cool.. clearly will never be Hockey Night in Canada
FOX.. i like Buck.. thats about it.. plus im an AFC fan not an NFC to add to the dislike of Fox

i remember not so long ago waking up and watching every second of the pregame shows... nowadays it is rather pointless... you have the internet... i do all of the game analysis i desire long before 11AM EST Sunday... i think these shows have become quite obsolete since the ol' net has come around... plus, you get NFL news throughout the week from all the other and same outlets... i find it rather pointless to even watch anymore... i just make sure to reach the TV by 1PM EST and after that the games pretty much take care of the rest.

I thought the crew doing the second game on ESPN was really, really good. I love the play-by-play guy (forget his name) that normally does the college Saturday night game on ESPN. Pairing him with Vermeil and Jaws was good.
I'm one of the few people that doesn't mind Theisman. Yes, he's a quarterback's best friend, but at least he's honest. There would be very few announcers that would have called out the NFL the way Theisman did after the horrible late hit call on Champ Bailey. His quote about not knowing if you can even tackle in the NFL anymore was dead on. The refs are way too quick to call the personal foul.

1. CBS is first because of their on-air talent, though that could change throughout the season. I thought Simms and Nantz were pretty good during Pats/Bills.
2. NBC is second only because Michaels and Madden aren't that great. They should throw Cris Collinsworth in the booth. I think that would help Al and John a lot. Best score box by far.
3. ESPN. Theismann sucks. I think Kornheiser's done alright so far, but he needs to start beating Theismann over the head. He's too buddy-buddy with everyone there and seems afraid to voice any real opinions. I don't understand why he's doing that, unless ESPN wants him to "dial it back." Which, of course, is ludicrous because the very reason they hired him is because he's so vociferous on PTI. Replace Theismann with Ron Jaworski and you've got something. Don't like the score box; too intrusive. And stop talking about T.O.
4. FOX. James Brown is a big loss. Graphics and noise are awful. Score at the top is bad. Whoever fills in for Joe Buck during the halftime show sounds like a robot. Joe Buck is not a pregame show host.

NBC - Classy overall presentation (except for the Pink song). I love the John Williams theme music. I still like Michaels and Madden. As for the desk, I like it. Bradshaw could learn a thing or two from Costas, hearing him blow through the day's game highlights like a fucking pro. He really is the best in sports broadcasting, period.
ESPN - Don't mind Theisman as much as I thougth I would, Tony's alright, but a bit of a blowhard. Tirico's fine, but sometimes I wish he would just shut up. Overall, though, nice presentation. And I'll take the middle of the screen graphic over Fox's sound fx and robots any day.
Tie between CBS and Fox - I can't stand Phil Sims or Randy Cross, and I can't stand the guys at the desk. I just think their overall presentation is boring. With Fox, I like Howie and Jimmy at the desk, but Bradshaw is an absolute asswhip to me. The guys in the booth are fine, but their graphics and sounds fx stuff is god awful.
