I am more in favor of what the UK does with cancer patients...they use herion (in limited cases) for pain control.

I agree completely, I just find an FDA study of the medicinal value of the stuff to be a bit silly. Especially considering the govt's stand on marijuana.

It's obvious that the government's stand on marijuana has to do with the ease with which anyone can produce marijuana for personal recreational use. The gov't believes that if they give an inch on medical marijuana, then the next thing you know, pot will be as legal as alcohol. I think they are probably right about that too.

Like I said in my post I don't care if they get high before they die. My mother died of terminal cancer so it's not like I don't understand. I watched her die slowly and if this would've helped her then I would be all for it. But do they really need a study to understand that this drug makes you feel good? And there are plenty of other drugs out there to lessen the pain. I just find this study silly is all.

I think the FDA looking into the positive, non-recreational, uses of any drugs for terminally ill patients is a good idea. Is ignoring some and looking at others a smart idea, no. However, maybe this is the first step in recognizing that all "illegal" drugs aren't so bad in certain situations after all.
